i've already discussed it with chris, and he's trying to figure something out, i was just reminding him....

Way i see it is...

1) every pass that is purchased prior to the show includes free admission to the show, this will look after the people who buy show tickets in advance.
2) asa has a sales booth set up in the concourse outside the event hall, anyone who purchases an anual asa pass at the booth is given free entry to the show
3) family admission should also be made available so a family of 4 can take in the show for $40

in the past there have been coupons available in the local newspapers for reduced admission, i think rather than use the spot in the paper for a coupon that spot should be used to inform people that the purchase of an asa pass will get them into the show for free and the general importance of asa membership.

but what about the lost revenue to the clubs for not selling a pass....... Most clubs rely on the revenue from selling asa trail passes???

like mitch said.... doesn't matter where you buy your pass or who from, you designate who your local club is on the form and they will get thier cut...

Money collected from the sale of passes doesn't stay with the club anyway, ity gets submitted to the ASA and the club portion is returned to the individual club, same goes for trail passes...ASA gets the bulk and the clubs recieve a portion

Just a quick update to everyone who has been posting, we have been following the discussions here closely and are working to implement many of your ideas. First, and it seems most importantly, we are working with Northlands to have Beer Gardens inside the show this year. I know this will make many of you happy!

For admission, we have brought in a new family rate / weekend pass this year. 10 bucks a head for a family of four, with unlimited re-entry. We have tried to make admissions as affordable as possible, but we still need to cover our overhead and pay for the space in the EXPO Centre (big bucks!). We are also looking at some 'Groupon' type deals, with cheap bulk ticket buys, but that is still in the works. Many of you have talked about the parking prices but that is completely out of our control and we have no say in that.

Check out the show website for more updates and show info, including the free draw for a new 'doo' and the ASA 40th anniversary raffle for a fully restored 1971 Ski-Doo TNT (with thanks to our friends at the Alberta Relic Riders!)

Cheers!

My two cents...
I like the idea of the show being held somewhere other than downtown Edmonton and downtown Calgary... Northlands/BMO are both terrible, especially paying $15 for parking for the 2 hours my car is there... that's worse than downtown Calgary! Moving the show to Red Deer would increase the number of folks coming in from Golden/Revy and Calgary. It would probably reduce the overhead cost as well and the Red Deer city hall may add some incentives further as there will be people staying in hotels and eating in restaurants there from the show.

Yay for beer at the show. Big Thumbs Up.

For entrance tickets, go with the groupon/coupon idea, but make sure that it's not just the Edmonton Groupon (us in Calgary don't subscribe to the Edmonton Groupon). I think you'll find your attendance increases just from the free advertising you get from posting a deal on Groupon.

Increase the amount of parts/aftermarket stuff on site and available for purchase. There was barely anything to buy at the show last year... yet somehow I still spent almost $1000. If half the stuff i was looking for was there, my visa bill woulda been way higher. Royal Distributing would be a big attendance booster as well.

Get Skidoo to sell stuff at the show... skidoo is missing out huge by not selling gear and parts. If they won't start selling, cut back the area they can rent so that other vendors who actually sell stuff can get in there. For most of us, seeing the sleds without being able to test them out is a waste of space and time.

I'll be crashing the doors on the 21st again this year. See you all then.

Centrally located to Red Deer would be great.Include a used/swap meet section either inside or out.

I know for several years now MARTIN MOTORSPORTS has had a large booth at the show selling ski-doo stuff. As far as the manufacturers themselves selling stuff at the show i dont think that should or would ever happen at the show. The reason being if they sold a bunch of stuuf themselves at the that would have a huge negative impact on there local dealer. As it'd take sales away from there local dealers.

As far as royal dist, i also feel that that'd have a negative impact on the show because you would actually less stuff for sale at the show due to the fact it's hard to compete with a company that is like the walmart of sled parts sales. So i think you'd see less vendors there aswell as less product there for sale.

Agree with what's already been mentioned like...

-Beer Gardens inside the show. With a kids play area nearby perhaps. :p

-Sled movie premieres at specific times. Producers can signup for showings that are scheduled throughout the day. Having this near the beer gardens probably makes sense. Kinda like how Burandt/Rasmussen set up instruction thingys in Calgary last year...but have scheduled movie showings. Big screen showing movies to get people in the mood!!

-FOOD. One cannot survive on bags of mini doughnuts alone. Maybe a food court kinda deal, have a few options in one place. The food was too far away, and not enough choices, too far away for peeps manning a booth to walk to in the first place ...then stand in line forever...then eat and get back to the booth...way too much effort just to eat and it takes you from the show, it should be setup to keep people in the show and mingling.
We were told there was food somewhere upstairs for vendors but we never did find it. :(

-Less focus on 'show' and more on 'sale'...'swap'. That seems to work at the US shows...having product! And they use indoors and outdoors to maximize the options.

-Used sled/gear/parts section, even if it's set up outside under tents if there's no room inside. Set it up more like a farmer's market with tables for rent versus booths so it's cheaper for the participants. A tent/area with only used sleds, sellers pay a fee to park it in a determined area with contact info.

This is 12 pages long and great information.

I'm not going through the 12 pages to see if I posted this before but regarding the food court, Taminator has a great point!

I go to the shows as a vendor and the food/beer in Edmonton and Calgary sucked. Good ol' Saskatchewan/Saskatoon has it figured out! There is a kitchen (with a pretty good menu) within
the confines of the hall and lo' and behold they put the beer garden right beside it! Marvellous idea but not rocket science. It was great to have dudes bring good ol' Ferniesnow a beer to quench his thirst every once
in awhile. One of my favorite dudes even brought perogies, sour cream, and sauerkraut with a beer. Nice!

I support the decision to have the show in Edmonton and will not get into the bashing as a decision has been made. This show isn't going to Red Deer and there won't be a show in Calgary. All the BC guys won't have a show until things get straightened out with money, provincial organizations, etc. Get used to it! Edmonton is where it is at!

I'm with ya FS I think moving it would be a huge mistake I seen some peeps want a Red Deer option you would lose some of the northern folks but not gain any southern folks Calgary had their own show remember how well that went over? they wouldn't hardly travel across town they are not going to travel to RD outside of some of the more diehard peeps. And the RD area would bring in anymore peeps cause most of those peeps are already traveling to Edmonton or Calgary for shows.

Like I said before I think a showcase stage for vendors to release new products like they do at the dealer shows easier to connect with lots of people at once like a concert setting

Oh and it's an ATV as well.....just sayin

I like all of the ideas mentioned so far, beer garden, food court, used sales / swap, more vintage sleds to show off. My biggest complaint is the parking and the price for the parking and that's about my only beef.

The dealers should offer a free shuttle bus from their store to the show. Get some sales out of it and happy customers. I'd be happy with parking at Cycleworks, go to the show, then come back and pick up a few things.
Have a guy at the front of the bus with a cooler - "Hola my friends. The beer is a dollar my friends and we are about 3 beers from the show my friends" Works in Mexico!
