Re: Missing rider

Completly agree with dez, The ice is just starting to form over the water like a film, its not a good idea to be trying your luck with it. shame to hear this type of news but guys please use your heads. Remember, there is water under the ice!

I doubt he was trying to ride over the ice, Im guessing he was skimming the lake as i doubt any lakes are completely frozen over for another 2-4 weeks.

Re: Missing rider-Sandy Beach-ICE

I was talking to his uncle/ my second uncle or cousin or what ever, yesturday while we were having our thanksgiving dinner. He was 30 years old, and not married , no kids. the family is devistated, and very embarassed. They are sad for him, and stunned that he could be that stupid. they aren't even trying to make excuses. I think we were related, but way out on different branches of the tree.

News said the lake was covered and the chopper followed a single sled track until it disappeared.

He'd be an idiot! I have no other word for someone who willing goes out onto a lake in early october on 2cm of ice.

Just calling a spade a shovel.

I agree with you but trust me calling a spade a spade on here will only get people pissed at you.

I'm very sad to hear of the loss of life of a fellow sledder. Sharing this story with the kids is about all I can think of to do in a situation like this. Hopefully we never have to deal with this type of senseless death in our family.
Our condolences out to everyone involved and effected by this tragedy

thats so true vp- we grieve when sledders are lost in avalanches, car accidents, and yes like this water/sled accident.. as an avid sledder i am sure that last thing this guy wanted was to go for his last ride.. have some compassion. Its like when your hot girl friend intros u to her best friend who is um...rather un appealing ,,, if you can say nothing nice better off not to say anything at all.....

my condolences to the family and friends its always hard when we lose someone.. regardless of the situation...

Same basic thing happened to a good friend of ours 7 years ago at Goslin Lake September long weekend. Went ripping out across the lake on his sled, and never made it back. We spent 5 days along with search and rescue and tons of volunteers looking for the body. Both situations were avoidable and senseless, but it doesn't make it anyless tragic. Calling names and casting dispersions is not what the family needs right now. Use your head before running your trap, nobody wants to hear it. My condolences to Shanes family and friends.
