I'm curious to see how many kms people are getting on their stock 800r engines before major rebuilds? I've got 4000 kms on my '09 now and just wondering if I should consider doing something over the summer to it?

I had 6400 km plus on my 2008 xp, overheated it and blew the engine. Had a short block installed with one year warranty and the sled is running great.

I am around 3600 Luc. Let's snow check. Don't think I will get 7600 km like I did on the '04.

On my 08 at 5000km I put a new top end in, and at close too 8000kms new bottom end crank was going. Now with close to 10 000kms and still going strong I'd first check your compression and your crank runout and see where it is at.

3300miles on mine. Clutch seal has been leaking since day 1. 500miles where stock, rest are with the big bore. Gonna do the seal once my bolts come in.

i do. theres alot in the tube. enough to do both ends of the engine so its really not that bad. its my motor 60$ isnt totally out of line for me to keep it rippin.

there are others that have found an alternative at a lower cost but i was in a rush

Anyone who goes over 4000k on a set of pistons are one pullstart away from..........TOTAL engine destruction.

a few hundy compared to 2500$... its good insurance to at least do the top end..

Got 3200 km on my 08, and now working on my 3rd crank. This one has 1100 km on it and it snapped in two right behind the PTO main bearing. Thinking back now, it was failing for a wile last winter. Currently rebelling for next season.

I have an 07 that got a new engine on warrenty at 5000km, this motor has 6000km with the same compression as the last 2 seasons and under 2 thou runout on stub shaft.
I have a 2010 that has over 10 thou runout on crank. I have put about 600km on it since I noticed that much runout, 500km of that was on the glaciers last weekend and when I put it away last night it did not sound to good?? either clutch or crank is makeing the noise. Lucky it did not get a chopper ride as we were an awefull long ways from the truck!! Still on warrenty till Jan 2012, so off to the dealer in Oct.
And by the way my 07 still hands me my ass on the hills and is way less effort to ride when racing back to the truck on pounded out logging road. Okay so I had 3 yrs to set it up, but I've been clutching the XP all winter and can't beat that dam Rev yet!
As far as motor longevity I think you get good ones and not so good ones. And if you look at market share from the different brands of course you are going to hear more about rotax failures than any other
