Your right.... but why should those "tools" be so accessible to everyone? I think if you are a responsible gun owner then having to licence your gun shouldn't be a problem. I think the gun laws will only help to prevent the nutty people that just grab what ever they can get their hands on and go on a shooting rampage and then shoot themselves in the end. The common criminal that plans to kill someone will definitely find a way to get their hands on a gun no matter what laws are.

i agree with ya......i think our laws just need to be more stiffer and maybe these arsholes will think twice about it. and if your on death row then the animal should be put down instead of all these bleeding hearts saying what about his rights........what about the rights of the victims and there familys.........as fare as im concerned anyone found guilty of crimes against women and child, murder should be put down no matter what.

Which one? Your concealed handgun, or your semi-auto assault rifle with a 20 bullet clip?

I have a feeling that you think you are an American. Is Rainier Alberta a town in the United States?

I do not have a handgun yet and my a .22LR is not a home defence gun. I would grab the shotgun, not sure why that's important.

I am 100% Canadian.

Do you have any proof to back this up, or is it just your opinion?.im thinking its your opinion. History time and again has proven my point. But you call it paranoia, and tell me to move. Are you this narrow minded in all aspects? Someone has a different opinion than you and your solution is for that person to disappear. I don't agree with you, so I have to leave.

You have a picture of a sled in your avatar. Suppose someone doesn't like snowmobiles and says that you pollute the back country and cause avalanches that kill people. They say that you don't NEED a sled to enjoy winter. Therefore they want to ban snowmobiles because they injure and kill people, cost the health care system too much when someone crashes or hits a fence etc. why do you NEED a sled instead of skis? And they portray you as an ignorant redneck because you like to sled. If you want to sled then get out of my country and move to Alaska where you can pollute and make noise and ruin the back country and ruin our health care system because I don't agree with your choice of hobbies. I don't like it, therefore YOU can't do it because I say so.

Before you say that there's a huge difference between a sled and a gun separate the inanimate from the argument. Neither object by itself is dangerous. Add the human and the trouble starts. Motorcycles, back yard pools, pleasure boats kill more people every year than the " assault rifles" everyone is wetting their pants over. It's a fact. Look it up.

It may make you feel good to be smug and holier than thou and think that we are better than the Americans because they are all paranoid or stupid or whatever. In your little world everything is fine therefore everyone else must be fine too. And if they're not, then they can leave because your way is the only way.
There exists a place where you can own all the guns you want to defend yourself. If that is how you want to live I suggested you move there. We have a much lower rate of gun deaths per capita in Canada than the US. I would like to keep it that way as long as possible. No logically thinking person can think that bringing our gun laws more in line with the US will make Canada a safer country over all than it is now. The numbers just don't back that up.

It's obvious we're all gonna go around and around on this...... It looks like obama is gonna do what he wants to do, regardless of their constitution, and all the anti-gun advocates are gonna feel all warm and fuzzy.

Then, unfortunately, something horrible will happen again somewhere involving a psychopath with a gun, and all the laws and bans and hot air will have done nothing to prevent it. Then what to do??

Like I said before, evil exists despite all the laws, it can't be legislated out of existence...we can recognize it and try protect ourselves from it, or allow government to legislate itself deeper into the lives of the law abiding.

When the riots in Los Angeles started over the Rodney King verdict, and the police and national guard lost the ability to protect the citizens, there was a run on gun stores by terrified people.

They found out that the gun laws, waiting periods and background checks applied to everyone,( not just the blacks, the hispanics, the gang bangers, etc). The mobs burning down the stores after they looted them, and the rioters that were shooting at the firemen trying to put out the fires didn't give a rats arse about the laws.
Only the Korean store owners and their business were spared the destruction. Why?? Because they were on the roofs of their businesses with "assault rifles" defending themselves and their livelihoods when the authorities couldn't. When order was restored, the businesses that were destroyed tried to pick up the pieces and rebuild. They found out they couldn't because insurance policies specifically don't cover loss as a result of civil unrest or insurrection.(check your policy) Why should we care?? we're not americans.... we're canadians, civilized, refined, suave and debonair.....nothing like that will ever happen here......

Look what has happened recently with this "idle no more" crap..... natives blocking roads, protesting, threatening to shut down the economy. In several instances court orders exsisted that required the police to remove the blockades. The police refused, citing they couldn't be ordered by the courts to use tactics that were not part of their strategy to mitigate the problem. They said It was up to them to determine the best course of action to defuse the situation. What happens when the natives escalate their protests?? God help you if you or your family gets caught up in a land claim dispute or a blockade..... if it's not in the strategy of the police to take action to defend you, then your ass is grass. You become collateral damage. If your house, your truck, your livelihood gets trashed, too bad. No insurance, no timely police help.....

But I'm just paranoid.... can't happen here..... this is canada..... we're different..... just ask the people in Oka.... or the homeowners in ontario who lost their houses beside the reserves when the indians squatted in their subdivision..... or the oil/logging companies in northern alberta that have to pay bribes to the local natives so they won't burn their equipment.... or the members on this website who's quads were stolen by the brazeau dam..... nope, can't happen here..... this is canada.... no need to worry, (unless you live in bragg creek, redwood meadows, devon, wetaskiwin, cluny, fort chip, vernon, or anywhere else beside a reserve ) the police will protect you.... if it fits their mitigation strategy..... Don't think it will happen.... just wait. The anarchist troublemakers that show up for every G8 protest, green piece march etc. are gonna start showing up and will inflame things like they always do.....and when its all over, all the pussies are gonna stand there, wring their hands and say " we need a law......"

Not sure how guns would have changed the outcome in any of the last paragraph....except maybe more than 1 person (Police sniper) would have been killed.

As I said before there is a place where you can defend yourself to your hearts content. Then when the Zombie apocalypse or the socialist invasion or whatever hits, you and the rest of the "non pussies" can blow away all the baddies, just like the movies. Maybe you'll have the last laugh, I can't say, but I'm not going to live my life as if the world is going to end tomorrow. Post apocalyptic survival is not my fantasy. This topic has about worn itself out.....

Seriously dude, you have calling some of us close minded for some of our opinions, some of which have been backed up by fact. You seem to think that the ONLY way to protect yourself is to have a weapon on you at all times. Any time something remotely threatening happens, a gun could have stopped it. I've asked in this thread why someone like yourself needs a semi-automatic, high capacity clip weapon to protect yourself? No one has given me an answer on it yet. You say Obama is ignoring the constitution by implementing this law. However, the second amendment only states "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." He is not infringing on the people's right to keep and bear arms. He is trying to keep the (pardon the wording, but it works for this) weapons of mass destruction off of the streets.
As far as your countries of history that you told us to do some research on, I did. Since, I had limited time I didn't make it through your entire list. From what I can find, none of them, so far, have disarmament precede revolution.
Nazi Germany, and Russia in the 30s both had to disarm their countries due to the Treaty of Versailles and the World Disarmament conference. Also, the ONLY country in the world that didn't disarm because of that, was.....the United States of America, and I'm sure that was the only reason that there wasn't a giant revolution in the US........(that was sarcasm). For more info on Nazi Germany, refer to one of my previous posts. Other countries you mentioned had civil wars, and military coups, and revolutions, but they weren't directly related to disarmament of the people. From what I can tell, you just listed off countries that had civil wars and coups, and are saying that if everyone had a gun this wouldn't have happened...

Hey West....

Just to set the record straight, I called whomever narrow minded after he told me to leave and move to the states.

I shouldn't have to justify why I own anything, including a high capacity magazine, provided I don't break the law. It's not for you to determine why I "need" anything.. if it's legal it's none of anyone's business.

The treaty of versailles didn't disarm the populace, it disarmed the military. It stated the size of a country's navy, ship size, air force and number of planes etc. It didn't take away a person's shotgun.

The countries I listed were all totalitarian regimes that perpetrated mass genocide of segments of it's population AFTER it systematically registered, then confiscated the firearms of it's citizens.

Periodically in Calgary and edmonton, the jewish community puts on gatherings where a survivor of the holocaust gives a speech. Sit in on one. And listen. Watch the slide show, and then ask yourself what you would do if it were to happen again. As I said in a previous post, the germans couldn't have done what they did if the thought every jew had a gun. Google the war in bosnia, and have a look at the mass graves of the muslims that the serbs tried to hide. That's what happens when only the government has the guns.
There's a poem by a german, (non jewish) written during WW2.... the jist of it is :"when they came for the jews, I didn't care, for I wasn't jewish.... when they came for the gypsies, I didn't care, for I wasn't a gypsy, when they came for the homosexuals, I didn't care, for I wasn't a homosexual.... then when they came for me, there was no one left to care....."

But you probably don't care. It can't happen here. Besides, you're probably not Jewish.

You are right I'm not Jewish, but don't presume to know what or what I don't care about. I'm not trying to determine why you need anything in terms of weapons, but I asked if anyone needed a semi-automatic rifle, with a high-capacity clip to protect their home. The only reason to require that type of weapon is to protect your family from a full scale invasion, and unless you have belt-fed M60s in all your windows it's not going to do much good anyway. The average person does not have the training to handle those types of weapons, in those types of situations correctly.
Maybe I will sit in on one of those speeches. I spent a day in high school at the holocaust museum in DC, and came out of there crying. It is a very powerful place and yes, if that were to happen in Canada, what would I do? I don't know what would happen, but I know that everyone running out to the stores and buying 'assault rifles' isn't going to help anything.
The Germans did disarm their entire country, then eventually allowed only those Hitler seemed worthy to have guns back. But the only way that the Jews could have stopped the Nazis would have been if they were all carrying the same weapons that the military had, but you don't know that even that would have stopped the Nazis. There is no way to speculate on what might have happened in history under different circumstances.

As far as Bosnia, it was the United Nations that passed the arms embargo on the former-Yugoslavia. Personally, I don't believe that wars and genocide that happened over religious reasons (which is pretty much all of them) have much to do with the current call for a ban on assault rifles in the US.

Thank you for that post though, I like facts and actual debating of things.

My pleasure. It's free debate, and the protection of our individual beliefs that keep all of us strong and free. lets hope none of us ever has to again go down the roads our predecessors have.....

If you read history you would know how much just a few gun helped the jews against the nazis
like the Bielski Partisans, ghetto uprisings, even in the camps.

Too bad, because it explains in great detail what you seem to defend.

They interview the former director of the 2nd amendment

I would light my truck on fire and drive it off a cliff before I would listen to CBC radio. It is absolute garbage.

is no rational debate for disarming people. How many innocent lives must be lost before the law abiding citizens arm themselves against the CRIMINALS. How many death would there have been at sandy hook if there was an armed guard there? 1. The shooter. History has proved and will continue to prove the only way to stop dictators is by force.

Hmm Australia and UK have more violent crime than any other rich country. That must be because guns are easy to get there right?

Who said disarming?

How many deaths would there have been at Sandy Hook if the mother was more RESPONSIBLE in her gun/ammo storage and her son didn't have all these weapons to choose from?

So, Obama, or the next leader is gonna become a dictator, and overtake his own people.. FOR WHAT? Is this the master plan?

That is an article about car thefts. What do guns have to do with that?

Do you think guns will reduce car thefts>??

You just proved my point. Why not let responsible law abiding citizens own whatever guns they like?
