So for 8 wks. and a couple days this wk. your support letters have gone out in the mail 761 to date. I have run out of letters so it would be great if we could get a bunch more come in. Apparently there are 200 peeps working the Premiers office and it is their job to reply to your letters, mine was in the first mail out and I haven`t gotten a reply yet nor has the club or society. :mad:

Copies of all the letters have also gone to City Hall and the Revelstoke Accomodation Assoc. now.

We had a meeting with our MLA and he also wrote a letter of support for us to the Premier.
At the city coucil meeting this past Tues. the North Columbia Enviromental Society asked city coucil to sign a letter of support that they had prepared, coucil voted to not sign the letter presented but to write a letter on their own.
There were statements and comments that we had great concern with, the club and society have replied to NCES with letters and it was cc`d to the city.

We are keeping up the fight here in Revy everyone and are looking for more letters of support. :D please mention it to your buddies in case they haven`t heard.

Typical gov't response....they didn't read anything, nor do they give a crap. Whomever has the most $$$ (heli skiing outfits pretending it's for the caribous' benefit) wins the game.

BC = bring cash. Dammit...I love BC, but your politicians are worse than Quebec liberals....

Government is supposed to be "of the people, by the people, for the people". Unfortunately governments have become, "of the politicians, by the politicians, for the politicians". They have lost touch with what their job is, to serve the public, not an elite few that are the favourite.
I sure hope that this message gets through to them, because we see changes taking place all over the world where people are making it clear they dont like non responsive politicians.

If your not sure what to say in your e mail, just cut and paste the RS Clubs letter and then add your own personal request.

Populations get the government they deserve. When the majority sit on their hands and do nothing 'because they are all the same anyway', the government does what it wants, for the people it wants to .......

Your signed letters of support were presented in the House on Mon. Oct. 17 by our MLA Norm Macdonald. We came back from the Puyallup Snow Show with 111 more signed letters to go out in the mail this wk.
Copies of these letters have also gone out the City of Revelstoke and the Revelstoke Accomodation Assoc. We attended another City chamber meeting because a letter from the North Columbia Enviromental Society had us concerned (their letter was not signed, the city wrote their own). We attended a Chamber social after the support letters we presented to them were returned to us, we had the opportunity to speak to a lot of local business owners. There is also a meeting being planned with the City so we can get together with everyone at one time and voice our concerns, the NCES will be attending this meeting.
We will have form letters at the Edmonton Snow Show, come by and see us.

There better be beer there Todd.
So we are back from Edmonton with another 140 signed letters to be sent out.
The final map from MoE finially was sent to us Mon. Oct. 17, after we have attended the Puyallup Show and as we are packing for the Edmonton show. Once again no time to produce our new trail map with the Gov. maps on them in time for the snowmobile shows. We had displays and brochures produce showing the new mtn. caribou closures, all at our cost.
We had also asked for Mt. Caribou brochures the Gov. produces and didn`t see any of those either.
Once again we have attended the shows and had the opportunty to inform and educate club members and everyone else who rides or is thinking about riding in Revelstoke about the Mtn. Caribou Closure Areas before they get here with very little help from Gov.

The club has also applied for permits for Caribou Basin and Keystone/Standard Basin as Gov. suggested, wondering how that will go.

that was a waste of time, here is how it went........ thought so

"We received notice that our application for a special permit for Caribou Basin has been denied due to undue risk to the recovery of Mountain Caribou".

Yes it does, still waiting for a response for the permit the club applied for for Keystone/Standard.

This is from the Revelstoke Current May 17, when we were informed about the closures 2 wks. after the fact and then were officially notified another 5 wks. later after we questioned them right after this meeting. There are other areas in the province that do have these exact permits. I see them controlling public recreational use of the backcountry but not commercial.

"Peel said two areas — Keystone and Standard Basin and Caribou Basin — are completely closed to winter use while a large portion of Frisby Ridge is also off limits, unless users acquire special permits. Caribou Basin may also be open to people with special permits. All three areas were closed two weeks ago. Violators will be ticketed, he told Council, which was meeting as the Committee of the Whole on Tuesday.
The closures are supposed to help the provincial government achieve six commitments it has made regarding the endangered mountain caribou. Those commitments are:
  1. habitat preservation;
  2. predator control, including a controversial wolf cull and a wolf sterilization program;
  3. prey control, including reductions in moose and deer populations;
  4. herd augmentation, which means transferring some caribou from one area to another to enlarge small herds;
  5. an adaptive management plan that permits flexible decision making; and
  6. controls on public and commercial recreational use of the backcountry."
The club and society are having a presentation/meeting Tues. night with the City Of Revelstoke, the Chamber of Commerce, Revelstoke Accomodation Assoc. and the North Columbina Enviromental Society.
1036 letters have been sent to the Premier`s office to date from the club and society, in our travels to the shows we have talked to people that have been sending in letters by e-mail also to the Premier`s office.
Big Thanks!!!!! to people working the front counters and in camps that are passing the letter around.

The response letter to the BCSF dated July 21 from Minister Thompson`s office is attatched at the bottom of this post.
We have applied for permits for these areas, not one of our suggestions or recommendations were even considered from our meeting with the Ministers in Vic. last Feb.,
here is our presentation from our meeting with Mr. Thompson and other ministers in Vic.
