Just finished doing some repairs and maintenance on my buddy's '12 Xp. While doing the chaincase oil I noticed the chain slider assembly had a bad taper worn into it pushing the chain into the inside of the chaincase housing. 2000 miles on the sled and oil and tension had never been done. Wear was caused by a loose chain.

Everyone needs to change their chaincase oil at the start of the season. When you check the chain tension I highly recommend loosening the tensioner off and removing the chain and slider to do a proper full inspection. The slider was a $63 replacement, much less then a chaincase rebuild.

Yeppers. Change that oil at least once a season. ( oil is cheap, parts are not). FYI I took my chain out when I changed to a belt drive this year and with about 3600 Kms the chain had binding links in it and the gears had some pretty good wear in them. Have a good look if yours are getting up there.
