The Oilers are standing pat for now.

Though the team is mired in an 11-game losing streak and owns the NHL's worst record, Edmonton general manager Craig MacTavish preached patience at a news conference Friday at Rexall Place.

Potential changes to the coaching staff and/or the front office have been anticipated by some, but MacTavish declined to make any new moves involving head coach Dallas Eakins or his assistants.

Goaltending coach Federic Chabot was let go last month.

"The players are holding themselves accountable. I think you have to credit the current coaching staff for that," the GM said.

Trade rumours have also swirled around the talented yet underachieving team, but MacTavish said no player moves are in the offing.

"I have not been able to find a deal that satisfies me," he said. "The long-term objective here is to draft and develop players."

"I don't think the core needs to be rooted out. The core needs to develop."

Both MacTavish and Eakins are in their second season in their current positions with the Oilers. Last year the team went 29-44-9 and missed the playoffs for the eighth straight time.

Edmonton has three recent No. 1-overall draft picks on its roster — Taylor Hall, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Nail Yakupov — but has struggled to convert that talent into victories.

"We're gonna get to the bottom of it," MacTavish said "We'll continue to make rational and responsible decisions."

GO JETS GO,
Never been a Flames fan but I love their work ethic and never roll over and die attitude, which by the way has won them several games.
