My long time friend picked up a single axle Freight Liner with the DD-15 de-tuned too 515 hp.

It rocks all day and night pulling 32.000 lbs at 15 too 17 mpg, loads in the 40 to 55.000 lbs on the tri-axle pull the hwy mileage to 8.7 too 9.2 mpg on the same hwys in Alberta and BC... Going East it jumps up to 11 too 13 ish less the long pulls on the hills.

Just closing in on the 2 million km mark, she's a Sweeeeet ride with the cush cush hwy long-haul package.

Lots of bling and 515 hp makes it a dream too drive.

Lem.

Filled in running the old school Pete 550 hp cat power plant as it pulls 48.000 kgs at close to 7 to 9.2 mpg ish so long as one runs the hills and tap-out on foot feed long before intersections.

Wize foot can pull off awesome mileage of load weights in and above this.

100.000 kg loads suck fuel, but that's another story for another day.

Been doing the half time 56.000 kg loads this winter with a 600 ++ hp FL thats maxing out in the 3.7 too 4.2 mpg,,, heavy foot brings it down to 2.2 too 2.7 mpg.

Drive wize saves on funds.

So to wrap it up, you can, and sometimes it makes perfect sense, pull with a gasser especially the newer ones. Mostly because I can, I have a diesel as I prefer the torque and the engine brake.

My brother took over my father's 2001 Monaco Signature 43 foot motorhome with a 525 HP N14 Cummins. Managed a steady 110 KMH from Hope going up the Coquihalla (a 6 to 7 % grade) pulling a GMC Envoy tow vehicle without breaking a sweat. About 1750 RPM in 5th gear or thereabouts. Had it up to 140 KMH at one point on that trip just to see what it was like. Smooth as silk. Pretty hard to argue that diesel doesn't have superior power but it can be hard for some to justify it if you are just driving around empty considering extra cost to purchase and maintain. Just another toy in my world :)

N14 (red headed step child) is a lot more of a diesel then what's in any pickup truck on the road. It's twice the size so not a fare comparison to a diesel pickup.

Depending on the trailer you can be overweight big time. My gas one ton was rated to tow 14,000lbs. My raptor toy hauler loaded is well above that. I asked about the OP's trailer weight at the beginning and never got an answer. If you have a 20k trailer it won't matter what gas truck you get you will be too heavy.

Well they do make a f550 gas. Have to go with a v10. Tow rating is 18,5K. V10=288hp @ 4000rpm and 424ft lbs @ 3000rpm. Not bad But the last V10 I drove sucked the fuel back big time hauling a small 5x10 trailer full of garbage. Like I could literally watch the fuel gauge move lol. It was in a 2003 f250 2wd.

Sorry friend, for the life of me I can't find the scale sheets I had all loaded up rolling. I must have lost it. It's a 2015 Raptor 365LEV. Book says the shipping weight is around 14,500 lbs. I'm guessing we could easily add 1500 lbs to that going down the road.

As for it being too heavy, I've got that impression to. I'm curious why. The brakes, frame, tires are all the same aren't they?? And why would they offer a gas motor in a dually??

If it just comes down to power, a guy could supercharge a gas engine 1 ton...

There will be a tag at the front left corner. It will have the dry weight and the max loaded weights on there.

Legally you would be overweight on most 1 ton srw trucks if not all. You would have to move to the big dually trucks. Like the 450-550 side. These dually's have bigger brakes and I think frames as well as tires (19") and suspension.
