I didn't know this pratic was going on, strang thing in-deed.

I my self like BC, AB, Sk and every other Province and Territoy as well as the USA, but I would only guess that a few others think different.

The BC I know has lots of awesome sights to see and vist that many of us enjoy, never thought BC is bad in any way from my many trips out there.

My plan is to continue traveling out that way camping and fishing for something to do, I have many friends out there and all across Canada and USA, so it makes well worth the trip to all places traveled.

Sounds like BC is so good that everyone wants to go there. Really my favourite part of Canada and those who live there should count themselves fortunate. This thread is mis-named.

Pity other provinces might make a practice of dumping their homeless on their neighbor but like every news story, there is likely info missing.

If I recall the Alberta reference, that was a Ralph initiative and the option was "unemployed and on subsistence in Alberta or BC. Your choice." Not surprisingly, quite a few took up the offer. I probably would have done that myself in that situation.

Some homeless people want to move, too. I think it is nice that our programs support that when the situation is right.

I find the furor out of BC a bit rich when they were shipping the homeless out of Vancouver when the Olympics were on. Not to mention, I really don't think anyone forced these two guys on the bus at gunpoint.

" I don't often end up homeless but when I do , it sucks when it is - 37 and the wind is blowing"
People who choose this life style ( some don't ) much prefer the climate and lifestyle of the lower mainland / island.....
to a lot of people it is glamorous to live like a hippie in the younger BC culture ,not near so much in the next 2 provinces to the East.....IMO

I don't agree with this practice of dumping homeless to other provinces at all. I have to wonder though if the practice in BC of providing the druggies with free needles and a nice clean place to shoot up and get f-cked up would be the province of choice for homeless. Isn't here even drug vending machines in BC? Maybe more taxes are needed for the bleeding heart socialist government provinces so this culture can be provided to some homeless, not saying all homeless are like this.

Did he not get in chit for chartering a bus and then went to the Greyhound bus ticket as the back up.

Exactly what I was wondering. If a homeless person had a choice I'm sure they would choose BC.

Gotta read "why" they chose BC though.

" he was so frustrated by Social Services not funding him that he wanted to leave the province. If he has to be homeless, he might as well be homeless by a beach, he said."

Yes they left because the one and only non-socialist government in the entire North American continent shut down the money train.
Here is a novel idea. Maybe Vancouver could try a new thing and see how it goes. Instead of providing free needles, food and beds they could employ these people for 5 hours/day. Pay them minimum wage. They could pick up garbage, prune trees, weed flowers… there are millions of city jobs they could do. They could buy their own needles and food. Hell who knows they might start to get a feeling of accomplishment and self worth. The little bit of work could be beneficial mentally and physically for them. They might decide to get a real job and be productive members of society. Wouldn’t that be something to try.
