Just got back from Costco and couldn't believe the price on steaks, roasts ect. I'm thinking about buying meat off a farm. Anyone know of any good places to buy like half a steer? I seen an add from a farm just on the east side of Edmonton and its 5 bucks a pound cut and wrapped not sure if that's reasonable or not ...she said roughly 1600 for a half cut and wrapped.

Beef has went thru the roof. Unfortunately not for the farmer. If your someone that eats a lot of beef deal with the farmer. Create a repetitive relationship.
Find a butcher and get it done on your own. I can’t believe the prices that grocery stores are selling meat in general for now.

I heard a rancher recently say that he has many cattle that he can't sell to the slaughter house / butcher because they are slightly "disabled". But they are just as good for food as any other. So if you could get one of those the price should be even lower.

Not just beef.... groceries have gone through the roof, 2-3 bags groceries 120-150 bucks it’s nuts. We joke about it but this winter might well be Heat or Eat for some people, not both.

Most of the 4h sales are done. I think just Hanna left on the 13th. I was trying to get one but most went for a bit more than I wanted to pay.

4H cattle are the best but go for top dollar. But a steer from a feedlot that was raised on grain and have butchered, most economical way to go and getting quality Alberta beef.

Take a butcher night class and then DIY the beef.
I have been doing my moose elk and deer for many years.
Knocks the price way down for doing beef or pork on your own.
More fun with group together.
For three of us butcher bill was over 2k a year.
Paid for all gear in one year less the smoker.
It really is not hard to do and vacum seal half for double freezer life over wrapping.

Have done a 4h beef for the last 3 years, if you want to buy a specific kids beef then you can spend some money but there is lots that go reasonable. Some kids put in lots of effort So its a good deal. Usually mid may sales.

Beef prices in stores are crazy, having a steak dinner in a restaurant is even crazier these days.

Is that walking weight?
If it is you will get 300-325# back packaged.
Way more than even a family of 5 uses.
Enjoy them tastey steaks and roasts!

That seems like a good price 3 dollars cut and wrapped for 800lbs of meat...I got quoted $1600 for 325-350 lbs. Do they have more for sale?
