Does anyone know if the police were on duty or off duty when they got caught in the slide?

Either way sad to hear.

Nelson Police Department Chief Donovan Fisher said the male officers were off-duty at the time and snowmobiling together recreationally.

Sad to hear
Condolences friends and family

I just rode that area last weekend. You can see why it has avalanches.

I've only been a handful of times, once when you could see. I was given the tour, rowdy for sure....awesome.

Very sad indeed.

Certainly some instability playing with us all. Not sure on other details, but if they were at Cat or Heli ski operations, then it fooled the Pros as well.

I heard a snow cat remote triggered a big one .

Been a bad few weeks with multiple fatalities.

Not the best time to get real crazy on the terrain choices

Sad as hell. 😢😢. It’s not the time to be rowdy out there. Sad thing is some of the safest riders/skiers I know became that way from losing a friend. Like myself. Also just cause you’re in the trees does not mean you are safe

Thats one of the biggest myths out there. Guys tell me all the time "I don't ride avy zones I ride the trees" In the trees in an avy zone is very dangerous.
Pros get fooled as stated earlier in this thread In 20 years of involvement with in bounds ski area avy control work I was around 4 incidents where we knew we would get the intended release bombing it but was larger than expected. Luckily only minor injuries.
Take extra precaution this winter. because they will be larger than you may think.
Three weeks ago we were sledding and discussing the snowpack and my son commented on things we are seeing people do and stated I am suprized there hasn't been any accidents. Now there has been these tragic ones and I suspect there may be more. The pros are warning this PWL may not heal.
