Hey fellow snow and mudders, i have a question that may pertain to some of you that have experienced this.
About a week and a half ago my knee kinda buckled out from under me, didnt think much of it at the time minor little annoyance really. Now last week swelled up full of fluid, so headed into the city and they drained all the watery blood out of it, not a great experience at all imo. The doc at that time said that he thought i might have a slight tear in a menicus or whatever its called, and said to go home take it easy fro 2-3 days wear a brace over it and use lots of ice to keep swelling down and pain relief. Figured it wasnt anything major, so off i went, football sized knee all gone.
K well its been 4 days now, no major swelling has come back, still sore as hell but...... the friggen thing feels like spagehtti, when not wearing this brace. Like there is no stability in it. Anyone experience this before and whats your take on it, go back in to doc and get an mri or just wait it out?

My GF has had two knee surgeries over the past year on the same knee from soccer injuries. Specifically she had her ACL rebuilt both times but before she had the second surgery this past fall her knee would buckle like you mentioned every now and then and later on swell up. Literally out of the blue, we'd be walking along and bam, she'd almost fall down because of it. Sounds to me like you might have something similar? I don't think taking it easy for a few days is gonna help you, I'd definitely get booked in for an MRI and/or see a specialist.

Its probably going to take surgery to fix it. If it doesn't respond to physio then push for surgery. It will bother you for years and years if you don't. It will take a while to get the MRI, see the specialist and get surgery so expect to deal with it for along time unless you are a professional athlete unfortunately.

well i was just curious is all, i dont know about if it is serious or not, i mean a torn Acl is crazy stoopid pain from what ive heard from folks that have had that happen, this isnt all that painful its the stability or lack there of that got me kinda wondering. I mean you watch a full grown hockey player blow an acl, that dude is down for the count and almost in tears, i can still walk ect, hurts a bit more on stairs where its carrying all my weight for a split second, just kind of wobbly feeling

tore my acl a few years back skiing, side lined me for a while, one month light duty at work, had to keep it braced for a while, but yea i took the easy route, dealt with it, got better as time went on but to this day i still can move it the wrong way and tweak it...i advise getting it looked at better, its to late for me to take much action now, but it still has its tender days

Have the same issue........waiting over a year for an MRI but did go to my chiro and he sent me to a physical therapist they both gave me the same strength exercises to do.........have had fluid about five times in the last year.....and yeah it just seems streached with no stability in the joint.......the exercises help. But you have to learn to be careful, and the worst thing to do is get to reliant on the knee brace.....sucks man really sucks because makes workin long days even longer...
Cheers

In my experience get in right away by paying for the MRI yourself. If serious problems are found you likely will be reimbursed. Could save you a few months of what could be a year or so in line up. Medicare does have it's problems!!

Pay the $$ and go for an MRI if you have the coin.
Have had my right knee scoped twice now and it won't get better, nor will Physio help.
Can lock up if you're not careful and then you're down and out

Tore my acl a couple of years ago on dirt bike had the MRI done and doctor diagnosed it as a 90% torn acl and meniscus damage. I opted out of having the acl surgery done where they use a piece of your hamstring to build u a new acl as I didn't want to be layed up too long and miss work. It took me a few months to be able to walk normal again after the accident. But a year and a half later I have little or no discomfort at all and I continue to jog play hockey and lead a active lifestyle. I invested in some asterisk knee braces since and wear them whenever I ride dirt bike or my sled. But in that being said it still isn't as strong as it was before and I have to be careful with it and probaly will be going to get the surgery done in the next couple of years.

be nice to it and get it fixed, iv blown out both knees and had surgery on one a couple times(kept hurtin it biking) and it gets worse the longer you leave it. try to get on the cancelation list if your close the hospital all the time, someone could cancel 20 minutes after your on the list and you could get right in. iv got twice now that way. sorry to hear bout that man, if you cant make the rodeo, no worries, il get as much footage and send you a copy. get better:stretcher:

I had a steer kick me and tore my menicus. It hurt like a bastard for a long time and after the fluid was removed it would pop and lock up when you were kneeling down working on something.Get it looked at soon! They ended up removing mine and the pain was gone but you lose all stability in that knee.Knee braces come in handy when your out riding!

Get the mri
Son in law had his knee repaired a year ago, now he is good a new
You will regret not taking care of it when you get incrackadooin's age (fossil like)

As for draining. You can do it yourself with a big needle. And use lots of ice every night.

thanks all, as far as draining it myself arff it hasnt really filled back up like last week, and im not entirely sure id want to try that myself, they basically suck it out with a couple great big super needles lol.
Ill get back into the doc, and get him to get me an mri done to see if there is soft tissue damage.
