Just read this article in the paper this morning regarding new trail maps being made available. Apparently the blue lines are atv and snowmobile friendly.

Edmonton… People who enjoy the outdoors can now access a detailed map of trails in northeastern Alberta, thanks to a partnership between Alberta TrailNet and the Alberta government.
The map shows trail locations for ATV riders, snowmobilers, hikers, skiers and other trail users. It contains interpretive information in the region, such as tourism points of interest, spots for potential wildlife sightings, recreation opportunities and the history of the area. The map also provides contact information to help visitors access specific details of a trail and its immediate surroundings.
“Trails are important to the physical and economic health of communities, especially in rural Alberta,” said Hector Goudreau, Minister of Tourism, Parks, Recreation and Culture. “People also take great pride in the recreational and tourism opportunities our trails provide, showing off many of Alberta’s beautiful natural settings in a responsible and sustainable way.”
Northeast Alberta was chosen as the pilot region because of its diverse land base, the commitment to trails demonstrated by its municipalities, and its heritage as a major route for explorers and pioneers.
“With the growth we’ve experienced in Alberta, it’s crucial to identify recreation areas that are important to Albertans, and this is a great first step,” said Ted Morton, Minister of Sustainable Resource Development. “The map will provide helpful information that can be incorporated into land-use planning and decision-making.”
The project was supported by a $90,000 grant from the Alberta government. The partners in the project are Alberta Tourism, Parks, Recreation and Culture; Alberta Sustainable Resource Development; Alberta TrailNet Society; Alberta Snowmobile Association; and Alberta Off-Highway Vehicle Association. Municipalities, local trail groups, business, industry and tourism associations also contributed.
"This is the first in a set of provincial trail maps we are planning for Alberta,” said Linda Strong-Watson, executive director of Alberta TrailNet. “One of the questions we often hear is ‘How do I find trails for my particular activity?’ Providing trail location information is an important step to enable Albertans to make responsible choices, access a wide variety of trail experiences and promote unique tourism opportunities.”
Maps are available at Alberta Trail Net Information Centre or through Alberta TrailNet at atnadmin@telus.net or 1-877-987-2457. During the summer, the maps will also be available at all Travel Alberta visitor centres.
