i have a 660 rhino it was smoking something fierce so i did piston rings hones it valve seals cut the valve seat but it seems to still be smoking could it be a little residule left in the pipe to burn out the inside of the pipe is black as can be

have you gave the engine a good breakin to let the rings seat? You might just need to go for a good ride to seat the rings and burn off the residue in your pipe.

Was the cylinder honed out properly with the proper cross hatch? Did you put an over sized piston in it? What were the ring gapped at?
