2017 ram 3500 Cummins

Thinking about buying a Stock non deleted 2017 ram 3500 crew cab Laramie, truck just turn over 100,000kms no rust or dents maintenance records shows everything is up to date. It has the 68rfe transmission I don’t know much about the ram Cummins models as for what’s good and bad about them? Any feed back would be nice!!!

Probably the worst thing about these trucks is the VGT turbo, if a truck turns 200,000km on a stock turbo you should buy a lottery ticket because you are very lucky. The actuators are nothing but problems and destroy the turbo and it's around $4k to replace with rebuilt. Other then that they are really good trucks.

I have 2 dodges and an International service truck with the 6.7 in them, Have done 1 head and gasket on the 2012 with 370000k never done a turbo on any of them The service truck has 340000 and the other dodge is about 4-5 hundred thousand k ( digital display quit ) do regular trans services and don't add much power if you delete it because the trans won't take it

08 6.7 with 68rfe with a s&b intake and a mini max programmer.
415k on engine and transmission. Water pump is all I've done on engine. Transmission has had one service at 390k.
Replaced a broken transmission mount at that time.
Biggest expense is when the wife drives and gets pissed off at tourists and tries to suck the air filter into the engine from stomping on it. She has done it more than once. Thought I had a pic but must have deleted it.
Rest of the truck is rusting away lol. Body will not outlast the power train.

Has for regular service just filter and oil? How many kms should it be done at?

Never had an issue on my 3/4 ton. Only has 88K. I found the tranny temps run 10°-15°C cooler once deleted with tranny tune.
Running only 30 hp more. Won’t go more. Did the Tranny flush and filter at 75,000 km.

I bought a 2017 Ram 3500
It had 120 thousand km on it
All stock diesel with deff fluid

Zero issues with it has 160 thousand km on it now.

My first ram 3500 diesel had 295 thousand km. Zero engine issues.
1 trans overall that’s it.

Had a 07.5 2500 6.7 / 68rfe. Deleted.. Head gasket and turbo at 340,000km. Otherwise just regular maintenance.

currently 2015 2500 6.7/68rfe 111,000 not deleted. Not planning on deleting either.

Ran my 2017 3500 to 210,000km was 100% stock never an issue but did try to stick to recommended maintenance, only mistake was selling it last feb before things went nuts on used for 40k.

Never own a dodge Cummins before just had a few duramax’s in the past. So just seeing if they are good trucks or not but probably going to pull the trigger and just get it.

Yeah it’s hard to find a low k diesel and in good shape for a decent price now with the market how it is!!!

Unless you're in a spot where you need to buy now it's only a matter of time before prices are going to make a massive correction. I bet it happens within 6 months. Once new supply picks up and many can't afford payments on current ones, prices are going to come down a ton.

Already happening with houses in St. Albert. Pre covid pricing from what I have seen

I have zero clue, but I’d think it’s gunna take at least 2 years before ur gunna see the flood of trucks back on the market.

When dealers lots are MT and you can order only. It takes awhile for the manufacturers to catch up.


Back to OP, Ram diesels are heavy on the front end. Plan on front end rebuild every 80-100000 km….ish!
Ball joints, hubs, axel u-joints , steering assembly, track bar joints will all need to be swapped at some point. A-arms joints too. If you lift it…. That will accelerate everything!
