My buddy bought a 1996 XCR 600 , that I know very little about, and needs my help with a few things. Is there any set models and years that this chassis was used? From what I can see, it was used on some models in a few different years, does this make sense?

I have a 95 xcr 440 my understanding is through the later 90's the chassis (suspension) progressed quite a bit,the best resource I have found for the xcr is the hcs forums xcr section ,quite a few xcr owners that seem to know a lot about them and their history..

aggressive chassis was 1 year, I'm sure it was 1997 on most models not 100% sure though but the RMK was still wedge chassis till 1998.

lol.. dave thanks again, and yes that is a 600 sp agressive style. they go like heck. thats the true triple triple engine. not a 600 on a mono block. a true race engine. congrats and make sure your friend runs it on premium fuel

They used that chassis from 96-99 in a variety of sleds. In 1996 they used it in the 600 xcr sp, and the storm 800. In 1997 they used it in the 600 xcr sp, storm 800 and the ultra spx 670. In 1998 they used it in the storm 800, ultra spx 670, the xlt 600, and the xcr 700. And the last year in 1999 they used it in the 600 xlt sp, 700 xcr and 800 xcr. The 800 xcr replaced the storm. It was a fairly strong chassis but very heavy. When I was growing up my dad was a polaris guy and had a handful of these sleds when they were new. They were fast sleds and handled good ecspecially on the trails or bombing across the stubbles. From what I remember they were fairly strong chassis but they were tanks, ecspecially the 800's. I remember once my dads buddy got a 97 storm 800 stuck in a big drift in a ditch down by yorkton on a midnight ride. We couldn't get it out so we had to go back the next day with a truck to pull it out.

Your right!! except the ultra was a 680 engine, I had a 1997 XCR 600 SP in the agressive chassis was a very fast sled 125MPH And the faster you drove it the better it handled. I loved that sled.

In 1996 there were 2 models of xcr 600 one had the mono block engine in the wedge chassis, which was the same engine as the XLT 600 but with a thinner head gasket. The Wedge chassis XCR actually said XLT on the coolant cover. The other was the "Triple pipe" engine that was a late release and had individual cylinders Called the SP and had reed valve intake instead of being piston ported intake.. The wedge chassis 600 had the single pipe and produced about 100 horse and the agressive chassis 600 made about 125 HP, and I believe they made both in a RMK model.
In 1997 the sled remained unchanged as well but had small changes in 1998 like a oil line directly to the PTO bearing. In 1999 the XCR 600 triple was discontinued in favor of the XCR 700 and 800 triple pipe engine with VES, but the XLT sp was introduced into the agressive chassis.

Ditto that from 4 strokes. In stock form they were fairly heavy but when tuned properly could more than make up for the weight. Their reputation for being heavy slugs make the agressor chassis sleds some of the most underated Polaris sleds ever. The problem was most people had trouble getting the set up right, especially on the 600's. That being said, we've got a couple of 600 XCR SP's that have spanked more than their fair share of 700's and 800's.
