I can tell you that automotive trim paint from crappy tire does not work. I tried it and the can looked good for one day then started to peel. At least i can tell which one is my now at a glance.

Probably any rust paint like tremclad or rustoleum. Just make sure the can is clean, meaning give it scrub with TSP to rrmove any oily residues, and let it cure properly before using it. Gloss paints will hold up better than matte or flat due to the fact they aren't as porous.

would you be able to powdercoat it?

If painting, try test sample make sure you sand it beforehand might work. They are making some crazy spray paints these days

Dont think you will be able to powder coat it, the heat will melt it. I would try Endera paint we use it at work and it sticks to anything! I dont think the red one looks that bad on your sled,it looks sweet all ready!

Sweet sled! I see where you are coming from with black. Have you thought about orange?

I have used the black Kryolon and even with careful prep it is still peepling or chipping. The red really shows through the black; orange maybe not so much....just a thought :xmas2004_15::happyholidayswreath

I saw these guy at the sled show, pretty cool technology. He does hood wraps without the vinyl.......dipps it in some hokus potion and voila your wrap is stained on somehow. He told me the same thing that it would come off or peel. Lightning nice sled by the way that thing looks sweet.

Yes, the only way to truly colour plastic is to dye it, otherwise the paint will just peel. If you are desperate you could colour the whole thing with jiffy marker, this will stain the outer plastic a little, but not like a true dye.

You can buy some kits aftermarket for dying vinyl and plastic. Sorry, don't have a link.

As Modman already said paint won't work. The problem with painting a plastic tank is the fuel leaches through the tank so no paint, no matter how professionally done will stay on.
