2015 AmSnow / Dynotech N.Y. Shootout in the Books

Inlet, N.Y. – Despite an unseasonably warm start to winter, the 26[SUP]th[/SUP] Annual American Snowmobiler Magazine / Dynotech Research Shootout took place Friday, Dec. 11, 2015 in Inlet, N.Y.
Lack of snow did little to deter a crowd of well over 1,000 spectators from showing up to see which of the four OEM stock sleds in box stock form, right out of the crate, could stake claim to being the quickest and fastest of the 2016 model year.
Stock sleds from CJ Motor Sports (Ski-Doo, Boonville, N.Y.), D&D Powersports (Arctic Cat & Yamaha, Lowville, N.Y.), and Sports Unlimited (Polaris, Utica, N.Y.) were hauled to Dynotech Research where well-respected engine guru Jim Czekala dyno tested each OEMs 600cc, 800cc, and stock turbo (Arctic Cat and Yamaha) offerings for the event. The machines were then secured until their first stock run on the day of the shootout so no tampering could take place.
The warm weather and dirt/grass track slowed the stockers down compared to the numbers we traditionally see in the snow, but they are no less impressive given the conditions. The poor conditions also meant we shortened the distance from a full 1/4-mile to 1000 feet, but thanks to Mack Studs, traction was not an issue.
Stock sleds are run right out of the crate (Box Stock) with the better of two runs recorded. Dealers are then given time to make adjustments to hopefully improve the sleds’ performance based on the conditions. The sleds are then given two more runs down the track after the ‘dealer prep’. The best time after dealer prep is then averaged with their best box stock run to give us our ‘Dealer Prep’ or improved average numbers.
