Yes you need a 2010+ shock. I think it will technically bolt together with a 2009 but it won't work right. I think it binds and prevents the skid from collapsing.

Maxwell what camera are you using, that quality looks amazing! Hopefully its not a DSLR because even though I have one I hate riding with it because its such a PITA to pull out that even if I have it I rarely actually pull it out of my tunnel bag.

I did the 154-163 swap and found some take off parts and got some new and it still cost me almost $2000. The $750 difference at the dealership is worth it. budget swap would be gearing, clutching, track and move the skid backwards.
