Your help is needed to ensure the future with opererating OHV in Alberta & Camping

Your help is needed to ensure the future off operating Off Highway Vehicles in Alberta and Random Camping.

This is starting in Southern Alberta and it will reduce the amount of area we can random camp and use off highway vehicles down to 0.5% of the land. If this proposal gets pushed through rest assured they will do the same for the rest of the province in time.

This is a huge issue everyone. 2 levels of this have passed without any of us knowing about it, and now its going public. If you can attend the public meeting surrounding these issues please do and make your voice be heard. I'm afraid an online petition may not be enough.

If this gets passed in this area its just a matter of time before it moves north across the province!

There is a Petition to sign here and this will not be enough.
Prevent the LOSS of recreational land usage in Southern Alberta

[h=2]Why this is important[/h] The South Saskatchewan Regional Plan (SSRP) is trying to implement a major land use restriction to Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) usage as well as random camping in Southern AB. It will affect every aspect of outdoor recreation, eg. Quading, Biking, Camping, Hunting, Fishing ect.... This plan has been been in the works for over 2 years and has already had 2 phases passed without the general public's knowledge. The 3rd and final phase is scheduled for May 2013. This plan if taken into effect, will give us .5% of the land that we use today. We need to be heard and voice our side of this to help create a balance for our social environment and NOT let the environmentalists have the only voice in this matter. More information on Alberta's regional plan( In association with the SSRP) can be seen on www.landuse.alberta.ca

I will call the Enviroment minister this week and voice my opinion and also see why this is already heading to Phase 3, were we notified on phase 1 or 2? I'll note my response here.

Just a note. Petitions, on line form letters anything other than a personal letter will not be counted. You really need to write a letter or attend a meeting. Keep it civil. No swearing no name calling and talk the truth.

Is it possible to get some sort of corporate support, just thinkin mfgrs and dealers. Our relationship for the most part is symbiotic, perhaps they might have additional resources/knowledge at their disposal....

The AOHVA is involved and they are supported by the industry and by it's member clubs (2 and 4 wheel). I would also hope that the ASA will get involved.

Glens right here guys, online petitions tend to not do much for anyone....

Get in front of your computers at home, and write letters to your MLA's and MP's.......

Please post any more links or information that we can here on this.

From Pages 9 & 10 of that first link:
Recreation
Respondents also affirmed some strong views about recreational use of public lands,particularly offhighway
vehicles (OHVs).
The SSRP needs to clearly address OHV use on public lands
• Several respondents suggested the SSRP should emphasize greater control and restriction over
OHV use on public lands.However, some respondents (OHV users and non-users alike) argued
that designated areas must be provided to accommodate OHV use and contain widespread
environmental damage;
• There appeared to be some agreement that OHV use should be excluded from ecologically
sensitive areas, but less agreement on how such areas should be defined. For example, a few
respondents argued for OHV trail access in the Eastern Slopes but a few others suggested the
area is too sensitive to accommodate OHV use;
• One respondent mentioned the Beaver Creek Forest Reserve as a concern;
• Several OHV advocates disparaged irresponsible OHV users who give the sport a bad reputation,
and encouraged government to work with user groups to develop sustainable trail systems;
• Several respondents said that an important solution to irresponsible, damaging and/or illegal
OHV activity is better enforcement, including harsher penalties; and
• A few respondents called for education to accompany enforcement of trail access and
responsible use.
Overall, the SSRP should aim for sustainable management of recreation access and
activities; however, people hold different views on what this means
• Some respondents supported increased recreation opportunities but had concerns about how
this, and sustainable recreation use,will be defined and measured; and
• Other respondents favoured increased opportunities only for low-impact, non-motorized
activities; for others, increased motorized access was a priority while others favoured a balance
between the two.
10
Individual comments and suggestions
• Maintain access for recreational snowmobiling (the respondent argued that snowmobiles cause
virtually no damage to the landscape in the winter time – clubs can help develop and maintain
trails);
• The quality and services of provincial parks has declined – money should be redirected to
repair and maintenance;
• Amalgamation of areas available for random camping means overcrowding at remaining
locations;
• Planning for sustainable motorized access to public lands needs a strong communication and
consultation process;
• Bow River Valley between Fish Creek Park and Carseland Dam should be turned into a
provincial park; and
• Enforce laws of trespass on private lands.

I can't find that either, I'll read those 2 documents more closely later..... 75 pages of "jargon" is tough to read.

Signed the petition and posted onto facebook......... :)

Just a reminder folks.... Online petitions will NOT be counted, as they have no way to verify who is real and who is not that has "signed" the petition.

Please WRITE or PHONE your MLA and express your concerns PROFESSIONALLY.

Do NOT send a FORM LETTER, write a personalized LETTER to your MLA and the group involved with this Plan.

I spoke to the office of Diane McQueen (Environment Minister) in Edmonton this morning and have sent off an email to Diane as she was on the road from Drayton Valley. I'm awaiting her response.

Letters here are the best thing that can happen and not a generic letter. An individual letter is worth more than 1000 signatures on a piece of paper. And im suprised we have 86 members so far that have only looked at these posts. We better step this up.

Maybe put a link in the popular sections or a banner on top of the main page.

This is absolute Crap, Crown land is land owned by the Government, and The government is a representation of the people, Thus crown land is open for use to everyone. They can't restrict your usage of it in any way. This includes leased crown land. They MUST provide reasonable access. Where we often get caught up is the "reasonable" part.

When i go shooting out in the bush this is always contested. But as a Citizen of Canada you have a RIGHT to use crown land in anyway you want. Provided it does not infringe on the rights of others.

To Quote Bob Dylan -- "The Times They are a Changing"

unfortunately with the different user groups and green thumbs, and so on and so forth things are changing, we need to VOICE our opinions to the government. I will try to get a list of email addresses for the MLA's in the affected area as well as Ms McQueen the environment Minister, and the Tourism Minister.

Remember, keep it respectful and balanced if you want it to make an impact.
There's a few idiots out there wrecking it for all of us. We as a community need to step up here as well or we're gonna lose everything.
