Buddies 97 Summit 583 sat for the summer and now the seat goes down but does not come back up. He thinks it's the shock but I was thinking springs. What say you all -- TIA.

Springs, springs control the weight handling and the shock controls the rate the spring returns.

I had a shock on my wife's sled that when cold would compress and not come back up. It would stick when completly compressed even if we attempted to lift the sled and press the skid down. Could be the shock too!

Take the rear shock out and that will tell you for sure. A buddies rev had the same problem, shock rebuild fixed it. I have had my front shocks freeze completely compressed. I'd bet bet the rear shock, or both, need a rebuild.
