Ok, so you like your guns, but why do we have to put up with them.

you actually can get a permit to carry a restricted or prohibited firearm in canada. the most common permit is for people working in remote locations to have protection from animals, but there is also legislation that allows a person to obtain a permit to carry for self defence how it is almost impossible to get one. not exactly sure on the details but from what i remember you need to have 3 documented threats to your life to even be considered to get this permit.

I have heard of quite a few people getting an Wilderness ATC but have not heard of anybody getting an ATC for personal defence. Just like Canadian fashion though, you need to be almost killed three times before you can protect yourself.

For starters I was shocked to see this discussion on this forum, which puzzled me even more was some of the posts on restricted vs prohibited concealed weapons among other things. It dawned on me that the bulk of the people on this forum are sled heads, thumbs up to each and every one of us, and just that. First off if questions are out there I suggest going on line to the RCMP firearms section of there web site. That will answer everything. Now to chime in on gun control. I think the question isn't about gun control, but more so towards the control of people. Stupid people, bad people and sad to say mentally ill people. Regardless of the controls placed on the masses there is always the few who ruin it for the many. Now the need to restrict magazine capacity, I can argue it both ways. One side of me loves nothing more then laying down a mass of bullets down range in a roar of thunderous beauty and the other side of me knows a 30 round mag has only one purpose, military and damage to people and property. Refer back to controlling stupid, bad and mentally ill people.

Black rifles (military rifles) look cool, are fun and all that, ahhh whatever I can't be bothered. However getting my hands of a .50 cal Barrett M82A1 sniper rifle, hell ya now we are talking. People using owning a black rifles for home defense??? You defending your home with the bad guy being out front 200 meters??? I hope not. Now a bad guy comes in my house, (without permission with malice and hurt on his/her mind) will face 320 lbs of dogs. That doesn't work then its a very legal non restricted tactical shotgun loaded up with :( zombie max loads. Why hornady had to market there tactical loads up to be zombie killers, be it marketing genius, is a bit of poor form. Again the USA propaganda machine hammering home fear in the masses. The biggest criminal in all this I believe is the media and the sensationalism it creates around the dirty bastards using firearms to kill innocent folks. Then the media fans the fire with forums on gun control lol the irony .

At the end of the day Canadian Law states you are allowed to protect yourself and family with as much force deemed necessary. A police officer told me one day as I was in a situation where I could of been forced in such a situation with very bad people living in neighborhood. He said this, do you sir have the means to protect yourself, your wife and two children if "bad guy(s)" come through the front door. I said yes. He then said remember these things. On your property, intent, center of mass (shoot to kill) and not in the back. Back ground on the bad guy(s) that were next door neighbors, top native gang members from Winnipeg. The right of passage to this gang was rape a white woman, or kill a white man. So when all this was told to me by a very large NATIVE police officer I did my best to pay very close attention to his words. What did I have to protect my family......very legal tactical shotgun. That was 17 years ago, go figure.

I think Canada's laws are just fine.

People who know kung-fu, don't capitalize a sentence, use too many question marks and people trying to take others freedoms and liberty. It could also be said that the the people who believe guns should be banned are the paranoid ones.

Nobody in the city likes your sled either, why do they have to put up with it? As with anything in a capitalist economy, if it can be built bigger, it will be.

Look at snowmobiles, 30 years ago to now...

But thats not even the point as semi auto firearms have been around for over 100 years.

Yes, we've all heard that so many times before, and I agree with it. However; Someone with a knife, or even a hunting rifle, isn't going to do nearly as much damage as someone with a MP5. I haven't seen a single person on any of these gun law threads say anything along the lines of, take all guns off the market. Though that seems to be what those who are on the side of gun freedom seem to be reading.

Check your facts chief, MP5s are banned in both the states and Canada, yet criminals in both still possess them. I find it hilarious though that people always want to ban guns that look "scary". This was like the "big scary gun" debate made by the opposition in Canada a while back... they showed a picture of an HS-50 which is a SINGLE SHOT RIFLE, but they want to ban it because its a and i quote, "Big scary gun". Dont believe me? youtube that and see for your self.

Very pretty pictures.....
Capable of firing off 800 rounds/min (fully automatic AR15), or as fast as you can pull your finger. In a quick test I was able to squeeze an 'air trigger' 45 times (the likely capacity of that clip in the picture) in 11.5 seconds. Lets say, that is fired into a crowd and 30 rounds hit something, with 3 rounds per target in a crowd. that is 10 people dead in 11.5 seconds.

Two swings with a hammer, that would be hard enough to kill someone would take roughly around the same amount of time.

Now, lets say someone enters a crowd and starts swinging a hammer at random people. They may manage to hit and kill 1 person, MAYBE 2 before they could be taken down by 2 or 3 other people. It's very easy to stop someone from swinging a hammer, not so hard to stop a bullet coming at you at 975 m/sec. I would put money on the fact that if someone went wild on someone with a hammer in a crowd, that people would jump in to stop it. If someone opened fire on a crowd, no one is rushing at the shooter to take him down.

LOL never heard of a fully automatic AR15, again check your facts, there is no such thing as a fully automatic AR15. Also congrats on being able to pull an air trigger 45 times in 11.5 seconds. Try to do that on a real gun and remain on target. It takes YEARS of practice to stay on target for two consecutive rounds let alone 45. I'm not going to argue gun control, i'm sure it'll work just as well as the war on drugs, or the war on terrorism or the war on drunk driving or heck the war on poverty... all of which are working real well for the US right now. Anytime you try to go to war on something you'll just end up accomplishing the exact opposite.

Its a matter of freedom and liberty. Sure you can ban guns and take them all away... because all those criminals are just going to come walking into police stations and hand deliver all their 600,000/ year (in the US) of stolen firearms... Be realistic.

Like honestly, Regulation kills democracy. Why do people these days expect the government to do everything for them? Do i believe everyone should have a gun? No, but i definitely dont want the gun illiterate left trying to make laws on something they know absolutely nothing about. See below:

The fact of the matter is, just because it looks like something the military uses, doesnt mean its military. Heck we all want our sleds performing like the pro's sleds do. Thats why we dump a crap load of money into them, and why we want them to "look cool"

same thing goes for a lot of gun owners, sure we could just have a plain old wood stock hunting rifle, but why when we could have the really cool advanced looking newly developed gun. So WHAT if its semi auto? Its not the gun that does the killing, its the person pulling the trigger. Maybe instead of punishing us gun owners, you should focus more on trying to prevent people from turning to crime. Because in the end, thats all these gun laws are doing, punishing the law abiding.

Besides whats next after that? Speed limits on sleds? limits to the amount of horse power? Be real, you think they'll be happy with just taking your scary looking firearms? Also i'm glad you have so much trust in the Government, who spends our money so wisely, makes completely relevant laws and never ever abuses power. (sarcasm)

Also just so you know the difference between a civilian gun and a military one. Also notice the trigger words he talks about like "assault rifle"

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out -- because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out -- because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out -- because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me -- and there was no one left to speak for me.

I believe that our gun laws are just. I own rifles and shotguns for hunting. Packing a handgun would be great, but that would mean others would have the same right, this is where I have a problem. That is why there is a law, not because of a tyrannical goverments secret agenda.
If some breaks into your house, wouldn't a baseball bat or shotgun with rocksalt do enough to deter a criminal? I guess I live a sheltered life cause besides having my vehicle broke in, I cannot say that I have had the experience.
As for arming the public, that is too many uncertainities for my liking. And if the government ever would turn on its people they have better artillery than assualt weapons at their disposal. I could care less if the Americans kill each other, its just all their guns make it to our street thugs because of irresponsible gun owners. I believe the US goverment will not be able to pass any laws through congress and this will blow over.
I talked to an American that I worked with and I said that gun owners need to be more held responsible with their legal guns; like locking them in a safe place and reporting when a gun is stolen. He told me that he wouldn't know if one of his handguns were stolen. So I say screw em.
