I just found a '06 yz450f anniversary edition yellow and and a '06 yz125 w/144bbk anniversary edition as well. They would be awesome rides cause at heart I'm truly a Yamaha guy. All I got to do is find time off from work to go and view these bikes and make the deal. Problem is that may not be till April. Then my son and I could gave matching rides lol. The 450 asking price is only 3500 which I think is low and makes me believe there's something fishy about it. The 125 is 4500 which may be a bit high.

Get your kid a 2000-2001 honda CR 125. these bike a actuly SUPER relyable! I had mine for 2 years and it didnt even foul a plug! I was 5'4 when i first got mine.

I have no doubt about the reliability when it comes to Honda. I got 4 of them ranging from 81 to 08 and they all run. But 2-strokes make me leery cause every ad is "new top end just redone last year" and I don't know how many of these bikes were worked on by back yard mechanics who didn't bore or hone the cylinder properly or put rings in backwards.

Your not considering the 450 for your son are you?? lol, my 30 year old, 6' tall, 180 lb boyfriend can barely handle his. IMO I would go 250f, if you prefer 4 stroke.. its a bike that he would still be able to grow into, without being too much off the bat.

I agree with what your saying about buying a 2 stroke, but honestly, i'd be more concerned about a 4 stroke that hasn't been maintained properly. Atleast a 2 stroke top end is MUCH cheaper to do.Also..2 strokes seem to be a little cheaper to find. When I bought my 150R the thing ran like a dream when I first looked at it, when I got it home and went to fire it up in the garage a week later..nothing. My mechanic came to take a look and sure enough the valves had not been recently done like the guy I bought it from claimed.

With thst last post being said I may have a 2000 Honda xr400 for sale if anyone is interested. I'm 3rd owner. The first was an older guy who raced it in the veteran class. The second was a young kid who had it for a month and didn't like it after he bought it. I've owned it since '04.

Well my search is over for a ride for my son. Picked up a sweet 06 yz125 from riverside today. Yellow retro plastics, 144 Athena big bore kit, fmf pipe, hydraulic clutch and some other goodies. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1298522105.967382.jpg
Thanks everyone for their input on this.
