RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said rescue crews were called to the area at about 4:50 p.m. local time after being alerted by an avalanche beacon.
Mount Gerlad, B.C.
Moskaluk said it appears a group of four snowmobilers was buried by the avalanche. Another group of snowmobilers were nearby, he said, and were able to dig out one person. The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The group was unable to pull out the other three snowmobilers.
Moskaluk said rescue crews would return at first light Sunday morning to try to retrieve the bodies.
Thank you to the group of Sledders that tried to dig these guys out! Sadly 2 of them was family, father and son. Please be careful out there people!
