Fourcast 2 was great, and nice that it was on iTunes as well. This one looks just as good, hopefully digital as well.

iTunes releases really hurt film producers more than help them, the sales price is less than a dvd as there is no physical product to manufacture and ship, however the contribution per download is only %15. If you enjoy these films, please buy the DVD. Mountain Sport Distribution is the exclusive distributor in Western Canada and you can expect any digital release to be 2 months behind the physical.

So the filmmaker only receives 15% of the itunes download proceeds? That's absurd!

I had no idea the return was so low for iTunes. How does that compare to the return on DVD purchases?

You have to factor in replication, marketing, third party purchasers and shipping costs so it probably averages to $6/dvd, you still have to sell a tremendous number of DVDs just to make back the production and marketing costs. The iTunes deal is a graveyard for producers, destroys the value of the product. Definitely a very questionable decision as to whether to continue placing content there.

Maybe I'm missing something, I know apple takes a big cut, but 85% dousnt seem right. I know on apps they take 30%, I can't see it being more for movie downloads, but I don't know. Just my :twocents:

There is also the distributor that feeds the content to iTunes that takes their cut and the IRS which we might be able to get out of being Canadian but that is way beyond anything I want to deal with, give the gangsters their cut so-to-speak. Here is the latest trailer for Fourcast 3.
