Hey guys i got the 2011 etec I have just over 4600 km's on it did the piston recall at about 2800 km's sled runs amazing! Just wondering cause I havent had a sled last me this long yet on average how many km's do these etecs handle before needing to have the motor freshened up? it's been maintained very well with all maintenance done at mr.r's clutches are cleaned after every weekend always use doo synthetic oil 91 octane fuel I do have the BMP stage 1 kit on it but shouldnt make a difference! also any other things to check reeds or anything like that?

hard to say you have one of the higher milage etecs ive heard of. if you take care of it theres no reason the bottom end wont go another 3000km. i wouldnt be concerned with the top end for at least another 3000 so ride her i would say.

the dealer would have checked the reeds when they did the recall. mine were flaking so they were replaced at about 2500km.

Pretty sad numbers really. I have 2800 miles on my 2008. It is still running strong. I put over 5000 miles on my 1972 440 tnt parked it for 8 years sold it in 2000 when I got back I to sledding and it started like when i got it in 1980. You would think that they would get better in 40 years!

New motors are a little higher output,,,if they were tuned to make 25hp they would probably run alot longer

are you really comparing you tnt to a 800r motor... ptec or etec. That tnt made what??? 40hp on the bottom end vs your 155+.

I had the same though about the older polaris 500/700. but these things where only making 120 on a good day and you where not even riding as hard. Sleds these days get THRASHED comparing to sleds and your riding 10yrs ago. I mean on my old 98 700rmk... if i hit 40km down a whooped trail, man i was BLAZIN... now with my doo... 40 is the average regardless of trail conditions. As well loading, that 136 or smaller track didnt load anything as near as hard as a 163.

Jared for what its worth and you know it already... did the bottom end on mine at 5500km with a BB, and really i could have gotten away proabaly with another years worth of riding after checking the crank bearings. The jugs on the other hand well that another story lol. I think with the crank the biggest worry is the isoflex grease. Technically it does not wear out, but it does "disappear" after time. mag side you cant really do anything about and i wouldnt be so worried but the PTO side is the one that doesnt see oil lubercation like the rest. Mayby its worth popping it off and replacing some isoflex. Ptec or Etec, the cranks are the same.

I am sure I could easily get a 800R to last 30,000 km or double that if I only used it at 5000 rpm :)

What is sad is he only has 2800 miles on an 08.

When the piston skirt goes, IT GOES!!

Anyone riding their motor over 4000K without a freshen up, is on borrowed time, and is one pull start closer to a new short block.

When my 05 went, it had 5000k, the bottom end ate the piston skirt, and blew a hole in the case. just before the ride, I had the reeds out. There were still the machine marks on the piston skirts. Metal fatigue.

Every time I have blown up a 2 stroke, it was right after saying "man this thing is running good". Some motors last longer then other regardless of how they have been driven.

You should be ready for another set of reeds by now unless they have redesigned them. I expect they were changed at that top end job?

thanks I was kind of thinking that same thing as well. I'm not sure if my reeds were even done in the first place as there was no mention of that at all they just said the piston recall was done and sled was ready to go. sled runs great and i'm loving it just wondering on some preventive measures to look at end of the season to see if I need to rebuild or not
