Your throttle probably has something in it. If it's sensing any throttle over 1% at startup it won't rev.

Yup if it doesn't go to idle it won't rev past 3000. Safety feature.

If you changed out the grips, you took off the throttle housing/block? I'm thinking somehow you have pinched/kinked the throttle cable. I did that on my 2014 when I put in a shorter riser when I zip tied it out of the way. I cut the zip tie and loosened the throttle cable and it was good to go. It was an interesting scenario as it didn't happen all the time, only once in the middle of the day. When it did happen, I wasn't in a place were I wanted to be.

So, I would suggest Rulonjj and RGM have hit it right on. Check out the throttle cable and one other may be the air box connection. Good luck

Would it be possible the belt is also sucked down? You say sled wouldn't stop & you hammered brakes on & hit kill switch.
Most likely a throttle issue since you had to kill it when loading onto deck.

Lol, that's a good one. Would that have caused the runaway problem you had when you were loading it up?

That's awesome that you manned up on an innocent mistake. Had friends rebuilding an old 670, and someone dropped a beer cap in the air box. Fired it up, sucked in the beer cap, took out the rotary valve, scared the surface, jammed the piston. There was a long silent period in the garage after that!!
