03 Kodiak problem

Need help. Got a buddy who has a 03 400 Kodiak. Went out long weekend, bike worked great, pulled over, turned bike off, tried to start it, will not fire. Got it home, checked everthing we could think of. Its getting fuel, got spark, checked cdi, but for some reason, it will not start. Any suggestions would be a great help.

Does it have compression?

Compression is good. Top end was done approx year ago.

Have you tried a new spark plug. The plug may spark when checked out of the hole but fail under compression

Check the valve lash. Tight intake valve will cause a rich condition and low starting compression

Check the flywheel key. Broken key may get you spark but at the wrong time.

Water in the fuel?

Changed spark plug, drained fuel from carb. Will check valve and possible flywheel key. Thanks for your help
