well I have heard all of guys saying a 1500 cant have two sleds on the back. I did the math and also went to ICBC to clairfy whats right and wrong.

truck weight with me in it and full tank. 2,415 kg
GVW of my 1500 chevy 4x4 ext cab 3,700 kg

Im alowed to haul 1285 kg or 2827 pounds

two sleds are under 1400 with fuel, girlfriend and the 2 kids with gear are well under 400 pounds, 100 pounds in spare gas. well under 2000 pounds. oh and 200 pounds of trailer hitch weight so well under 2200 pounds. I can still haul another 600 pounds and be legal. I was going to take my box off and build a flat deck which will weigh less that the original box so I didnt add weight for a sled deck!

why cant I haul 2 sleds legally? Im just going with what the papers say. plus I do have tires that are extra load and if they are not enough, I have a set that are load E 3415 pounds each at 80 psi. I have air bags also. can some one tell me why I cant haul two sleds now?

Who told you that you can't haul two sleds on a deck with a half ton? I would'nt just because it would sack the suspension out but you have air bags which would take care of that problem.

You may be under the GVW but how much of that weight is on each axle? You might end up light on the front and heavy on the rear.

I agree with summitric, Go to the scales and check the weight you might be in for a surprize. On a 05 GMC 1500 4X4 with my propane tank in the box full of propane (350lbs) the guy at the scales said to me that I can carry my 130lb wife and 200lbs luggage. I would be over weight. I know the local RCMP very well they look at most trucks with 2 sleds on decks 1500's don't cut it.:nono::beer::nono::beer:

I went in to ICBC today and they said Im good for 3700 KG. that is what my paper work said also. they said some one upped my GVW I dont know from what tho... 3700 kg is a lot. so my truck weights 2415 with me in it. Im good for 1285 kg or 2827 pounds in the truck. I said to the lady at ICBC thanks and have a great day. I will remove my 1500 on the door and call it a day lol

just going to go with what the papper work says. it will take more than 2 sleds (more like 3 plus all my crap) to put me over 3700 kg! I might even have to find a fat chick (or two lol NOT) first time I have loved ICBC lol

so if ICBC upped my GVW does that up my rear axle weight? because my numbers on my insurance are totally different than whats on my door! I might have to do some paint touch up that covers the sticker lol. Im just going with what ICBC said and with there numbers on my paper work.

Ask ICBC to give it to you in writing. Id be will to bet they wont.

Isnt the amount a truck can haul in the box, Or on a deck above the box (including the deck),called the "payload"? This would include what is on the hitch?

The GVWR is the Payload plus the GVW of the vehicle. It should all be on the door sticker of the truck, which is what the RCMP is going to go by anyways.

ya, when i went across the scales, the scale cop said my rear axle weight was tetering on being legal, and that was in a f350 diesel with 1 sled on the deck and pulling a 4 place open trailer with 4 sleds and 4 of us in the truck and all our gear and jerry cans.... Just think what your rear axle weight(payload) will be loaded up........

If your 1500 (half ton) truck is rate to carry the same as a 1 ton chevy, then consider this.................

1 imperial ton = 2000.001 pounds
1/2 imperial ton = 1000.0005 pounds

do you think your 2 sleds and deck etc payload exceeds 1000 pounds..... Just sayin'. Otherwise, they should have called your half ton a one ton...........obvious reasons why they never!!!
