thoughts out to the family of the killed.
And to the injured man and his family.

A big thank you to all who helped in the recovery and rescue.

I was in the states (alaska) a few years ago sledding and got caught in a small slide no one killed but one of the most horrific things to happen in my life.

Anyone who helps save the life of another human or tries to save a life is a

HERO!

Sounds like three SPOT 911 messages were sent within minutes of this avalanche (approx. 4:30pm MST). No helicopter was dispatched, and when the RCMP were asked about that, they said they do NOT automatically send S&R via helicopter when these 911 messages are sent. S&R was dispatched via ground routing. Apparently unless they are in contact with the parties involved and know the exact situation, help is coming on the ground, not the air. I have a SPOT and did not know this. I also have a sat phone so its good to know that I better use it and not assume help is coming quickly unless I do.

Heart felt condolences and prayers to Family and friends of the victims. So tragic! Hats off to all those involved in the rescue and recovery. News this evening is saying the victims are from Halkirk. Most of the local towns people are pretty shaken up. Lots of winter left....please be careful out there everyone.
