Nailed it. What exactly does it do ? Furnace wouldn’t fire. I wigggled the wires and now it works again

High limit I’m assuming if it gets too hot it breaks circuit and quits firing to avoid overheat

Exactly. It will turn the burner off when the temp in the furnace gets to high but leave the fan running until it cools enough and it will relight the burner until either the desired temp is reach in the trailer or it hits the high limit again.

LOL, That is a poor mans buggy alright.
That's part of a type 3 VW [notchback, squareback or hatchback]...had a pan cake motor.
Type 1 ...bug, ghia, thing
Type 2 ...bus, pick up, van

Late 60's [67/68?] they switched from 6 to 12 volt, you could buy a kit and swap your vintage VW over to 12 volt. [bulbs, gen/alt, horn, etc]

A multi meter is a good choice.
