back when I worked at the Audio Visual Company, we were trying to figure out how to get some of the equipment we had there to work for x-mas lights, the control boxes, programmers etc would easily cost you over $10,000 depending on the size of the display.

Smart Faders are a big key in it, as well as FM transmitters for the audio, and other types of control boxes.... I don't know the exact terms, but someone like AXE Music should be able to give you rough Ideas as to what is required.
