T3 rails

Theres a vid on youtube of a guy at the show doing a once over on a 174 T3. He says the new rails are chromoly. Are the '13 and '14 rails aluminum or chromoly?

Highly unlikely that it is Chromoly. Sure it's strong, but it rusts, and almost 3x the weight.

4130 Chromoly= 7.8g/cubic cm
6063-T6 Aluminum=2.68g/cubic cm

I just rewatched the Norona video and he said it was chromoly rails? Maybe he is confused? He was struggling abit with the RAS 2 front suspension. Lol.

You know the whole rails are to light,blah,blah,blah argument is mute to me. Guys want the lightest sled they can get but it better be able to handle tail landings and 50 ft drops. Its a powder machine, designed for powder. If you want to do the Rob Alford stuff then either learn how to land like Rob or buy a Freestyle and land it hard? Just my 2 cents..

i would never bend those rails the way i ride unless i come across an unsuspecting rock or stump.Its like saying the bumper sucks when you pile drive a tree!!!

Ya these sleds aren't really designed to hit immovable objects but peeps get there panties in a knot when they fold up after hitting something.

O bet dave means chromoly arms. Everything currently is mild steel as far as I know. This would be interesting as iy could change the flex characteristics of the front arm slightly.

Yes from what I've been told the suspension arms are chromoly on the T3 but the rails are definately still aluminum. Norona was a bit confused.

I haven't read anywhere but what's the chance the 174" rails are straight and not tipped up in the rear?

All the Summit rails have a slight lift at the back. This is for ease of backing up in reverse we were told.

Biggest differance is that rob jumps sleds for a living and knows how to land properly.

I was told he was on a 162 anyway.
