I have a 99 sportsman 500. Put a new batt and starter in it and she wont fire. It has not been run since summer and it fired up then with no troubles. Here is what I have done so far with no results:

Drained tank and carb of old fuel, replaced with fresh gas.
New spark plug....good spark.
Repaced battery and starter ( the reason it was not run since summer )
Tried to prime putting gas directly down the cylinder.
Checked air box and fliter....good airflow

Is it possible the fuel pump is dry???

Any help is appreciated!!

what was your compression reading???
Is your plug wet with fuel or is it dry??
You mite have to do more than just draining fuel from your carb.....possible carb job. take it out and clean it up. make sure all jets a re clean and clear..

I had the same problem... i added fuel stabalizer and forgot about the bike for 9 months... wouldn't start... drained the gas tank added fresh suff no go... wtf?

I drained the carb... nothing...

It drained the carb twice with two run throughs of clean gas in the carb and it fired right up... I got lucky... i had no idea that fuel stabalizer goes bad you guys that can rip apart a carb and clean it are lucky... i am not that mechanical...

Is there lots of hours on it? Timing chain may have jumped a tooth. Seen it a few times on different machines.
