On a snow bike I am lookin at wrapping the exhaust pipe with that asbestos tape ( not sure of name for it) to prevent melting my pants and some of plastics. What do you guys recommend? Pros and cons? Advice?
I'm thinking the same thing, it should be better for the bike but not a mod guy so don't know the fine details of what it would do the combustion of motor.Mines only wrapped after my turbo, so it doesn't hold heat in on the tuned portion of the pipe. I believe I used the little stainless straps that came with the kit, similar to a hose clamp but looks better. But personally I would think it would make performance of a snowbike better, it's going to keep the heat in the pipe and run similar to like it would in the summer, instead of constantly being cooled with snow.
Subaru?Just for reference here are pics of a header I wrapped with the DEI grey colour stuff, wetted first and stretched on. One photo before and one after painting with their waterproofing black silicone paint
Where did you get your DEI? Thanks for pics. So it's better to stretch it while wrapping?Yes that's the unequal length header currently on my STI. It's held up pretty well over 4 years although it's pretty well protected under the skidplate and the car doesnt' get a lot of miles. I have another equal length header wrapped in the DEI "titanium" light tan coloured wrap but haven't used it yet so can't comment on the durability.
