What am I missing? The 600 RMK is 417 lbs, belt drive, descent track and 39” ski stance. Whose gonna buy a 550 fan???

I think I might be a fan. Be great for my oldest next year (10 year old next winter). Will need to do a track swap, open the running boards up, and find out what clutch work will need to be done.

That's exactly what I'm thinking

It would be for riding geometry. He’s 4’2” and 85lbs. The narrow and short seat height with proper bar height would make it much easier to control/manover over the 600.

You get a bigger engine that the kid can grow up with, only 42 lbs more, is wider and has better rear suspension. Hell, I'm sure the front could be "fixed" after a couple years with just a pair of bigger shocks.

Here's another fun fact. Take $2799 in 1991, inflate it to 2017 dollars (talking USD) and you're just over $5000. Not bad Polaris.

Personally I feel that Polaris did a good job with this. No, it isn't for everyone. But not everyone needs a liquid cooled 600 or 800 as a 1st sled, nor should they be on one - although there are some exceptions. The youth market has been put on the back burner for several years, and let's face it - these new riders are the future of the sport. My kids stated on a 380 fanner and learned to RIDE the sled, not simply mash the throttle and let the sled ride them. Yes, you have to work a little harder to make a fanner work in the mountains, but it will work, and the new riders will develop skills and confidence that will help them throughout their riding career. I remember Gary Bailey's (father of David Bailey, multi-time MX national champion) philosophy: He never added power to the kids race bikes until it was clear that it was the other bikes (not the riders) that were beating him on the track...

I started on a 340 Indy lite and then the 440 Indy sport. Both fan cooled and both did well. I'm pretty sure I will be a buyer of the 550. Going to be a good sled for the wife and kids.

Good work Polaris. Would have like to see something bridge the gap between the 120 and 600 but I guess this is close.

Stupid emissions standards

Stopped in at the local shop today and got a price quote. Was actually surprised how much cheaper it is over the voyager 550. Going to be the same 550 engine as the voyager just with a smaller stance and platform. The electric throttle control sounds like it will be the idea that they use on smaller quads. Looking forward to seeing them.

I think it's going to be an excellent sled for the wife and grandkids so I put my deposit down on a blue one with electric start the day after they unveiled it!!!

Good on polaris for coming out with this, I started on a 89 250 tundra LT than a 91 indy lite, I remember the difference in power, even the 91 being a direct drive it still had quite a bit of power over the tundra, lol.
Imo thats a great trail sled for the wife as well, low maintenance and fan cooled.
The days of the 400, 440, 500 liquid cooled engine options should be reconsidered as well.
A 600 liquid cooled can be a hand full in the hands of the inexperienced.

I find the liqiud cooled sleds are a nuisance when running around locally with the kids, your constantly watching temp gauge and having to take a rip to cool things down. I have a 3 Yamaha 340's and one 300 that the older kids ride but the throttle is a little stiff for some of there thumbs. If this new 550 is as good as it looks, I'll be swapping out a couple yamahas next fall. :)

My dealers said he has two coming next fall, one electric start and one non. ( it sounded like all dealers were getting two whether they liked it or not? but don't quote me on that ) I put a deposit on the blue electric start and another fella put a deposit on the red non elect start. Dealer said It wasn't necessary to put deposit on yet but I figure depending on demand, I will have my a$$ covered in case I'm not available in March and there is a limited build? :)
