There's more to it too. Gas taxes are so high in Vancouver that anyone who can goes over to Washington to buy fuel. That's likely one reason bc gasoline consumption is down. Also go to the interior and see how many heat their homes with wood/coal/used motor oil in big outdoor furnaces that spew horrible amounts of smog into the sky. Look at the elk valley on a cold day.

This is the kind of left wing socialist BS that drives me wild! The "revenue neutral" statement is a total sham. You can quote the figures of added carbon tax vs a drop in income tax and say that they balance out, but what about the added costs to business caused by the carbon tax that gets passed on to consumers in the form of higher prices. Even if a business doesn't raise prices, it produces lower revenue because of the tax, and when a business has lower revenues, it lays people off, doesn't expand, cuts wages to employees etc. Industries that are big users of fuels are hardest hit and do not see revenue neutrality because they either generate less profit if they don't pass on the added costs, or they pay more tax if they do raise prices to cover the added cost of the carbon tax. Somehow the left wing is incapable of seeing how added taxes benefit nobody but the government.

Add to to that the rediculous statements like the "thousands" of lives lost due to carbon dioxide. If we assume "thousands" to be 2000 people, then an average of 6 people a day in Canada die a carbon dioxide related death. Gimme a break!!
And if things are warming so much that the pine beetle is flourishing etc, then logic should dictate that this enormous warming should result in much lower use of fossil fuels for home heating and provide a corresponding drop in carbon dioxide emissions. ( of course it doesn't ).
The lefties spew this bu!!**** daily and the media never fact checks it or applies logic to it. Fu$$ing amazing!!

not that is am a huge fan of the carbon tax and would prefer to have the $0.07/l tax in my pocket. But, would love to see some facts from those who oppose it. Also, reading some of your posts you should all note that it was a CONSERVATIVE BC government that brought this tax in not a left leaning government.

BC hasn't had a conservative government in a generation.

um you might want to do some reading. The BC liberal government is a conservative government not like the Federal Libs. Google it.

Christy Clarke is the leader of the LIBERAL party of BC. You may consider her to act like a conservative, but she is, in fact, a liberal. She will fall in line with the federal leftist progressive agenda just as Notley has in Alberta, and soon will start to destroy the economy in BC in the same ways that is happening in Alberta. The lower mainland will be somewhat insulated due to the fact that there is little, if any, Canadian money being invested there (mostly Chinese money), but the rest of BC is gonna get slammed just like the rest of us.

Drive through the rest of bc, it has not changed in 25 years.....thanks in part to the ebb and flow of the socialist society in the lower mainland / island. For example 100 mile house and dozens of other towns just like it , look like they did in 1978....that's what happens when you have a government that frowns on people making a profit !

Just because its on Wikipedia doesn't make it true. They're liberals, and when the chips are down, they'll follow the liberal historical behaviours of tax and spend. Always have, always will.

Well said!!! The rest of BC has been bled dry by the lower mainland. Such a shame too, because it's such a beautiful place full of good such people.

Simply put she has no choice in BC . You have so many greenies , protesters , pot growers etc ( mostly lower mainland / island ) that have the political power to replace her with a socialist NDP party in a heart beat. She appears to be doing her best , but in reality, her hands are tied.... People who are like the above mentioned move to BC . She like it or not has to cater to them and always will have too....
That is the underlying reason BC had not enjoyed the boom years like Alberta , because every so often the hippies think the rich are making to much , so they vote in a NDP government . Which in turn practically ruins any long term growth & investment.... And the cycle repeats , over and over again .

Read posts 70&74. BC should be one of the most prosperous and best developed provinces in the country. Instead, the interior has a third world road system, a very poor economic base and poor job prospects for the younger workers. Driving through the interior of BC is like driving back in time. All due to high taxes and economic disincentives for everywhere except the lower mainland. The proof of this is evident in that wherever someone in BC lives near a border (either Alberta or the US), they cross the border to buy gas, groceries, building supplies etc. I have a recreation property in Creston, and I do the same.
Repeated governments have stifled development and taxed prosperity away from the working people. Look at the coquhalla (spelling?sorry!) highway. When the province wanted to build it, it couldn't afford to do so without doing a PPP and charging a toll for years to pay for it!! Despite having some of the highest taxes in the country!! And the road still sucks balls!!!

I was asking about hard core facts not when you drive down the road and see towns. I spend a LOT of time travelling in AB as well for work related and can easily say the same in various regions. Look at Lethbridge, that place hasn't changed much since I lived in the '70's in High River. Anyway, I get confused when people complain about crappy infrastructure but don't increase taxes or are against spending. Unfortunately can't have both.

I always thought it strange that how busy the resource industry was in north eastern BC that none of that money made it's way back to infrastructure upgrades...like the sh!tty narrow no passing lane highways with bumper to bumper traffic for miles on end. billions of dollars must have come out of that area from forestry and oilfield

Yeah it did ..... It went to support social programs for the people who protest against forestry and the oilfield......
