What a day!!!!!!!
Went up to Barnes Today and had fun.
The parking lot is BLACK with coal dust. Apparently ,,,,, sooner than later that lot will be for mine parking ONLY!!!!!
That is what the Grader op said. So in all honesty do not pay your trail fees if their is no parking?????????? Until you find out what the real scoop is.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO,,, left the lot and headed up to Barnes. When you cross the 1st creek, carry some speed as their is a big rock after the 1st guy goes UP.
After that it is good all the way up.
When you get in to the initial open area, WATCH OUT for open water in the creeks that flow thru out that whole open area.
See some folks climbed that 1st open bowl to the right, with no rocks exposed.
Sketchy as their are already some death cornices and major wind loading at the
So we then proceeded up to Upper Barnes ( Stayed away from the lake). Had to stop in 1 area on the way up and shovel snow over the flowing water and rocks.
BOOT IT!!!! and made it up.
Ha Ha 1st guys up their this year and it was EPIC!!!!!!!!!! 3-4 feet of snow , with 1 foot fresh !!!!! AWESOME snow with a surprising crust 3 feet down that provided a surprisingly OK base.
Of the 4 of us we hit 2 stumps total and wrecked nothing!!!!!!
