Some of the zerks on my quad don’t seem to like taking grease. It feels like the zerks locked on however grease just comes out the end of the gun.

Some of the zerks do take the grease it’s mostly the hard to reach ones. Any tips for me? Quad has about 1900 kms I bought it used from a forester (used for timber cruising)

I am thinking on picking up an electric grease gun from PA (mostly for my sled) and a lockable type fitting from amazon, from what I’ve read the lockable ones are the bees knees...any of you guys have experience with these ?

thanks,
Gavin

Do the balls on the zerks depress easily. If so, the coupler on your grease gun may be set too loose or too tight. I also hear a lot of people have has success with a needle fitting on their grease gun.

Have the suspension bushings been changed? I replaced all mine with "Garage Products" bushings and they are so tight that you can't add additional grease. All I grease is the u-joints now.

i found solution was to replace old zerks, they were full of old dirty grease. take one out, apply grease gun, usually still can't pump grease in. new zerk usually solves the problem. they are cheap. who wants to use old grease zerks anyway, as they are usually clogged with dirt.

for the money these tools cost , you can replace a lot of zerks, in my opinion.

If you can get a torch in there without melting anything. Heat the nipple up a bit. That loosens the old grease and will allow grease through. Also you can get the grease guns made for ones that won’t take grease. You hit them with a hammer and push’s grease though

I had the tires off to install my new ones and decided to take the gun to it, most of the zerks took grease, I suppose my angle was wrong initially. Oh and a couple of them that were still stubborn I used a Center punch to push work the nipple before the gun...as suggested above

Hope that helps someone

Im now doing the gear box and diff oils, all the plastics that need to be removed make this job is quite the task lol

Electric grease gun with locking coupler is the only way to go. If that won't do it I remove the nipple and check if it takes grease. If it's not the nipple use one of those things you put penetrating lube into and tap and that will clear it up.

If it's a bushing it can get dirt in and the grease will turn to sand and plug up the zerk and the hole into the bushing. Change the zerk and dig the crud out of the bushing with a ring pick while you are at it. The lock and Lube is the best end I have found. But keep your old end and out a zerk in it because the lock and Lube will not fit in an the areas.

If you are just greasing a quad and sled don't waste your money on an electric. We go through cartons of grease tubes every year in the farm and don't use an electric for everything.
