Winter specific truck tires

Winter on stock wheels... always! LOL
I just returned home with a set of 5 used studded Nokians (80%+ remaining) for a pretty darn good deal so that solves my winter tire dilemma. I'm searching for a second set of factory 18" wheels now for cheap 😆

Great graph...honestly I ran nokian hacks and blizzac extensively.... The big difference to me...nokian hacks have directional sipping which really helps with wet road and hydroplane....the nokian last way longer and have more tread for the deep stuff...if you get caught on a dirt road in spring break up with blizzacs your screwed...not sure why but nokian aren't an all season but just wrk better then the Bridgestone blizzacs...

Hakkapellitas with studs here. 2 winter seasons and the 85% is still showing. Don't even need to throw the truck in 4x4 nearly as much as with M/S


Great graph...honestly I ran nokian hacks and blizzac extensively.... I can't even find the Nokians Hakk 8's in a tire size close to a 33" tire for 20" wheels.

They might be fine in a 18" but even their LT2's they only have one size in a 20" and those tires don't show well on their webpage. Maybe I will see if someone stocks them.

When I got my Hak's last winter, the 8's were not available for my truck (F350). The 8's were just a light tire. All I could get were the 2's. Might be different this winter but I don't know.

A couple guys mentioned the 8's. I don't know what they are putting them on.

The LT2 looks like the only Nokian you should run on a heavy truck. At least in a larger size.

8's are a passenger tire, as were the 7's and so on. LT2 = Light Truck, version 2

And yes a 1 ton diesel pickup is a "light truck" by definition.

Canadian tire has the same tire branded as the A/T W for %25 off right now. The only difference from Cooper is that they do not offer the A/T W in the Southern US as the compound is geared more for cold weather. Check them out.

I ran these last winter on my company truck. I was very impressed and they will be going back on soon. They are not studable but otherwise seem to meet all the criteria of a winter tire. Oddly they are not in the winter category of Cooper's web site. They are not going to last near the 100k I usually get out of a set of tires though.

Chances of me running a tire right down are slim. I don't put huge miles on and will run 2 sets unless these seem to wear really good. I have been debating about the studding or tires that are able to be. Could be because I haven't ran a set b4 and seen the difference in crappy roads. I know yesterday would have been a great test.

i Have tried them all being given that opportunity on a company truck,try the pro comp extreme at's with studs, you will never look back and will run them year round for years to come.

Not sure which xtreme's your running but I haven't found one that's studable.

I'm heading into winter number 2 on those on my Ram 1500. I only went with P rated because that's what came on there and I cheaped out a bit. I don't know if the higher load rating wears better, but if you drive any amount of gravel, they won't last. I've got 29,000 km on this set and they should get me through to spring, but that will be it. I believe they have 85K treadwear warranty, so I may be finding out if that works or not. The tire shop I bought them from sold another set to a guy that runs gravel everyday and his didn't make 30K.

As far as traction and everything else is concerned, they're not quite as good as a full blown winter tire, but they worked well enough that it didn't bother me. Worked alright in the rain. My whole deal was if I could get away with one set of tires for all year, I could live with them not being as good, but do an alright job with everything. The wear issue is the problem for me.

I'm running these too and have been REALLY happy with them.

Highly recommend calling Rose City Tire in Camrose. I was a die hard Kal-Tire person, but they made it worth my time to take the drive to Camrose instead.

The AW was originally branded for market by Canadian Tire and was given special pricing for them when they were introduced, now available at other dealers. Otherwise its the same tire and cheaper through CT, and sometimes %25 off.

I looked pretty hard at them. No idea of they are the same, visually its the same tire, same tread, same design, different name. The compounds could differ? I sent an email to Cooper and didn't get a response.

The tread pattern is different on xt4. atw and at3 are very similar, but much more siping and the edges of the tread blocks are cut differently. I have about 40000km on my atw's and they are hardly worn at all, they are the LT tho. My Firestones barely made 35000km before being to the wear bars. Very happy with atw. Have ran p rated at3 as well and was happy with wear, but tread was shallower than the LT's.
