So how many guys really know that the intent of the CVT cover was to reduce snow and water mist from getting on the clutches more than for cooling?

It was cooler with it shimmed out 2mm WITH guard on. I only put holes into the guard to experiment with it later on, then put vents in the panels after that. I had bad issues with my 09 and shimmed that one 3mm before it worked well. I just applied same thinking to the 12. If yours isn't having a problem, don't fix it....


I take it u put a new jackshaft in so u could float the secondarry ya ????
Seems like a lot to get 25degrees cooler lol...

Wasn't the 2012 jackshaft 3mm longer than the 2011?

It was designed for both equally is what I was told by Rich at BRP.

That is correct 3mm longer. Bought one cheap off eBay for 2008 xp. Never had one issue with belts or high temps.

Same jackshaft in the 2013??? Might be an idea to look for one....

Thats what i always wondered about these clutch setups....Since you WOT more often than not, the belt is running on top of the primary, AND is sitting what I waould say "closer" to the motor due to the sliding action of the outer half of the primary...

Are these clutches set up so they are aligned best at WOT, or are they set up from factory to be at a "happy medium" alignment.???

Seems as I will be pulling higher RPM's more than putzing around when im in the mountains,, I would have clutches set up as if the are slightly off at lower RPMS, then when the primary closes up all the way, the belt is running evenly on both sides and is running in perfect alignment between the Primary and Secondary...

Stop me if Im way off.....

from my experience on the 08' clutch alignment remains very consistent at all rpm. You could tell by looking at how the belt sat on the secondary if the sled was going to eat belts. If by sliding piece of paper on each side up the belt till it was tight on the secondary it stopped at the same place you had a good one. If it was not the belt was twisted and would generate heat and eat belts.

Is your dealer going to deliver some to you on the hill when one fails? Lol. Trust me they can fail. I have seen it twice firsthand. For the price of a couple plugs isn't peace of mind worth at least that?

did almost 7000 km on my 11' on original plugs.

My tool kit upgrade! Best 15 dollars spent!

I borrowed your idea and put this in my sleds. Torx set, Allen set. Crescent, multi screwdriver, vice grips, pliers, chunk of wire and asst of nuts bolts and washers. O ya and couple met. wrenches. All X 2.
It a slick idea and the best part is I didn't have to think it haha. Thank you

First day riding my XM today at Quartz. I noticed that it doesn't come with wrench for adjusting track tension (two tools required, only one equipped), and my track was super loose (maybe a dealer PDI mistake). Glad my buddies had the right wrench so we could adjust it.

I put on 125km. First off Oh Ya they are badass! This thing pulls forever and u can put it anywhere you want lol. As usual the etec doesn't use much fuel but drinks oil like a pig, even more than my sled last year. Of course this is just for break in.
It held 7900 all day long on clicker 2 until popped up to 6800+ ft. Put it on 3 and away we go.
As far as the flap goes I was originally gonna cut it but it does no harm. Once u get in the deep it pops itself up for the day. Just kick it back down when u get back to the trail.
Ya that's all love the sled its gonna be a great year.

I have a 6" cresent wrench, stubby 8-14mm wrenches, Std & metric allen keys, Torx keys, side cutters and pliers for now. we will see as the season progresses. I usually end up with way more.

Figured Id gather everyones ideas for tools to add to the collection on the sleds, since the kits that come factory are so lack luster.... Earlier in this thread, someone asked about the extended seat bag, and how it doesnt allow the stuff stored there to fall out when you remove the seat...... Does anyone have an idea how this works??? I thought maybe leaving the original lid on the original seat storage when you install the extended bag, but the lid has to come off in order to install extension.... I'm confused....

I filled the rear storage with supplies (fire starter, a small box of tools, my Poo puller, and a few rags) and then I decided to get the book from under the seat. Everything fell on the floor…..:D

Maybe with nothing under the seat, one won't need to take it off.

The rear seat accesory bag is awesome. Lets you have added storage and you can remove the seat without everthing falling into the snow. If I remeber correctly it was $69.00 from my dealer.
Looks good also.


Whats the answer to not having crap fall out when removing the seat?? LOL

Buy the windshield compartment extension, take the book from under the seat and put it in the windshield compartment. No need to remove the seat and dump your stuff in the snow. Problem solved. Geeze, 8 pages and not one derogatory comment from a pro rider......... Xm's suck, all black and chit.........
