thats good the DD is gone. what a terrible invention that was. couldnt handle 120hp so i guess they had to do something for 180hp

I have had no issues with my DD and I personally know of 2 others That are over 180 hp. One is a 220hp triple in a CR chassis and the other is an 09 linderman built RG M1000 turbo. So this seems like a pretty bold statement to me!

WEll if they cant handle any horse power than how do i have one in my modded M1000 with 6000km's om it with no issues, i just changed the bearing the other day. Rental '09 M8's with between 5000km -8000km and not a single issue.

Prob about 3000k and no dd issues here either.

And never had any problems with my 2 previous M's

well im glad you guys are having such success with your diamond drives....but it still doesnt hide the fact that the diamond drive is a terrible design. first of all when it does lock up there is nothing you can do about it. never seen many cats on the hill with an engine issue but any cat ive ever helped out of the woods always has a locked up diamond drive. if it was a yamy poo or doo i would have simply handed him the extra chain out of my backpack and he would have been on his way. no helicopter required. how about gear ratio changes? ya thats fun!

ill have to take off both my socks to count how many diamondrive failures ive seen.

and glen you of anyone should know that they dont hold up to turbo power. how many BDX hardened versions of the DD have you installed?


btw. 13428732458970954 KM on chaincases no issues if you want to start that game

this is cats biggest improvement for 2012 imo. back to where everyone else has been at with something that works.

again one of the guys I ride with has a RG linderman built M1000 turbo! Stock DD in it and has never had an issue! Gearing changes I will agree are not nearly as simple but I recently did it in mine and it wasnt the end of the world. There are some issues from what I hear if they are not looked after but as you know maxwell 1 guy can get 5000kms out of a machine and others wont get 2000. As for locking up the DD I have never run into this but that is a major down fall for sure and the chain system would be a bit more convenient there.

I will agree that yes there has been some d/d issues, but from what i have seen alot of the time it comes down to lack of maintenance. Alot of guys dont notice if the vent gets plugged and things like that. And what happens when the vent gets plugged is it builds up pressure inside the case and slowly blows the oil out. All the broken d/d's that i've taken apart 99% have had next to no oil in them. Bearings dont do well without oil, and usually one of the bearings fail and the balls fall out and jam in the sungears. As far as re-gearing yes it is more expensive than changing a gear in a chaincase.

Had a guy in this weekend that had a polaris that he ran the chaincase out of oil and guess what the chain, gears, chain tensioner all toast. Same type of problem. IMO.

Have to agree with u here, its lack of maintence on the owners part, cat says specifically in there owners manual to change d/d fluid after every season or every 500 miles what ever suits them, its an easy one to do but if the owner dosent feel like he can do it then take it to the dealer.
Also there is a specific amount of oil that goes in there so if u do it yourself tell the make and model of ur sled and they well give u a bottle of fluid (dealer) specific to ur sled, some get more , some get less sometimes if its overfilled it can cause a pressure as well and if can garnade on ya. But yeah own a cat with d/d and are happy they are going back to chaincase for sure less hassel and maintinence.

not a fan of DD either. blew mine at 600 miles and it had one service done to it. so not even another 200 miles after it was serviced...and properly. bearing failed and exploded. didnt lock up but i have video on my YT page being towed out. 2 out of the 4 i ride with had theirs fail. it is a problem. best bud owns a Cat dealership and my main riding partner is the master cat tech. BEST news was the elimnination fo the DD. some guys had nothing but issues, some had not a lick of a problem! i didnt take a chance and put in the BDX light weight DD. what a difference. sled seemed way more snappy and i have over 3500 miles on the ol girl now. not a problem with it.
excited for the new sleds...tired of getting my ass handed to me on some of the big pulls by STOCK XP's. no one can deny the climbing capabilities of those XP's. they effin work great in stock form. im talking 800's here. i have yet (or ANY in our group) out climbed a XP. stock yammis and dragons dont stand a chance. the Pro's are working awesome tho, but havent riden with them much. will cat be king of the hill next year? i doubt it. but i think they will be neck and neck at least. Doo's isoflex is their flaw to me. seen a few go down this year...all around the 2000-2500 mile mark. cat is the DD, Poo is that damn 800 motor. they are all junk, its just who you want to give your money too...lol

looking forward to next year for sure. hell, i may even purchase a 1100 4 stroker...??? never thought i would utter those words. but i have invisionments of tearing up a new 1100 stretched to a 163", Powder Pros, chip, exhaust...near 300hp! sounds pretty good to me! lol

and another 40lbs of fuel , dont see any need for it without the skid

40 lbs, gasoline is a littler heavier than that, or the new 1100 T will have a small tank:d.
The weight I've been told was supposed to weigh as much as a MTN nytro, with the 38in ski stance or around 550 dry.
If the chassis is well balanced a fellow won't notice the weight when the engine is pushing 240HP.

HUH????? the chain case set up isn't bullet proof either! and it seem you know this since you said you carry a extra chain in your backpack.
Seen lots of them explode before when I was racing, and after mods to MTN sleds, AVID drop and roll and 3in track for example. If you don't change your chain on a regular basis on a high HP sled the chain will fail. I've also seen broken plates on the chain.
I don't know how true this is but was told the 1100T is running a 17w chain, That was the second question I asked him after asking if a 3in track will fit nicely. Still wondering if a 16 wide track would fit tho with the tapered tunnel:d

I have also seen several XP's that when the chain breaks it takes out the chaincase aswell.

Yah beat me to it.
Yep the chain breaks and piles into a corner and blows the chaincase apart there was one at my dealer this winter.

I changed a couple of chaincases at the shop here myself this winter. Only saw three d/d's here have issues this winter.

I'm riding a TM8 and have had no issues with the DD, and had a M1000 prior with no DD issues. Again I agree with earlier posts that maintenance (or lack of)is the biggest part of any drive line failure. I've seen all brands where the case has busted out from the chain piling up, typical there was no oil or the chain wasn't adjusted.

If only the Manufactures could develop some type of system that required NO maintenance(ie. no uneducated fingers) all our problems would go away...Ya right!

I believe the biggest reason (imo) Cat went away from the DD has more to do with chassis layout. Their new vibration isolating mounting system for the engine(similar to the M) and how it ties in the secondary and drive shaft, should help eliminate center to center\engine torque\belt heat,slippage,failure problems. Didn't that FAST sled use something similar, a mounting bar between the engine\primary and the secondary drive line?

I've seen it on all 4 brands. It's not brand related to only one manufacturer. However alot of the chain failures on XP's are related to improper maintenance. Most people never tighten their chain because of the poor location of the chain tensioner in behind the muffler.

Ha Ha. No time to get my hands dirty like back in the good old days but I am very good at overseeing things. Lol. Honestly though when I first saw that chain tensioner idea back in 05' at the test centre I did not like it but no one was listening . :)
