i am looking at buying a new 2009 or lightly used 2008 1 ton truck
truck but i am not really sure what to get i have narrowed the search down to the following
2009/2008 f350 6.4l powerstroke
2009/2008 f350 V10 gas
2008/2009 dodge ram diesel

but i am really stuck on what to get i have never really been a dodge fan but the cummns diesel is really nice and people seem to be getting decent milage
i am really concearned with the ford diesels with the problems and fuel milage
and i know the V10 is hard on fuel as well but i think the fords are nicer trucks

any insight would be a great help if you own one now would you buy again ?
(fuel milage, engine problems etc)
i would probably not due much to the truck (no programers/or exhaust or dpf deletes)
there you go what more can you ask for:beer:

I know this one is not on your short list, but my F-150 King Ranch is the nicest truck I have ever seen. { Boy,am I going to get flamed} It has the 5.4 gas engine and gives me 20-21 on the highway. I only pull a small sled trailer and it drops to 17-18. It is better than any car I have owned.

gotta agree i am a chev guy ,or at least was, to the bone. Got a 09 lariet love it, exc mileage, towing capacity that rivals chev nd dodges 3/4 tons at 11 500lbs, rides like a car hauls like a truck best of both worlds. pulled a 4 place enclosed trailed to nelson and back loaded to 7500 lbs got 12 mpg all the way at 110k.

Since we're posting opinions.....Chev guy all my life and as of 20 min. ago am a proud new owner of a 09 Chev Dmax. First chev diesel i've ever owned so hopefully it will stand up to my expectations. It will be my everyday driver and week-end puller. Will post pics when she's in my driveway. Oh and Competition treated me awesome even though i was trying to be the cheap ba$tard.

I have a 2008 F350 cc 4x4 V10. I using it for checking oil wells.

Average summer mileage is 11-12 MPG

Highway 16-17 MPG

Pulling 5th wheel with second trailer behind with Polaris Ranger 8 MPG

I had a 02 7.3 and then an 05 6.0. The V10 certainly does not pull like a diesel will, but you have to look at what percentage your pulling will be.

I switched to a gas for a few reasons:
1) Doing the math, gas averaged $0.02/L cheaper compared to diesel for the year previous to my purchase
2) Purchase price was ~$7500 more for the diesel and then I was going to have to pay another ~$2000 to install a Positive air Shutoff (not applicable in your situation)
3) I was going to be getting my new truck just when the 6.4 was coming out, so there was no track record set.

Another fellow just got the same truck with a 6.4 and he is getting 16-17 MPG checking wells with it. He tends to drive conservatively but that is much better mileage than I expected.

V10 are notorious for exhaust manifold bolt failures, not something that will leave you on the side of the road, more of a PIA.

I like my V10, but when it is time for it to go down the road, not sure if I will choose gas or diesel.

yes they are with a regular cab short box 4x2 same with the payload they advertise 3030lbs but you go to a supercrew and its under 1500lbs
and unless they completley redesigned the brake system you wouldn't be able to stop that kind of weight the rotors on the f-150 are terrible for warping(2004-2008)
