It's winter. Do you know where your lane is?

I'd do a forum poll but can't find that feature here.

The question is, in winter city/town driving where the painted lane markers are mostly covered by snow, do you try to drive inside your lane markers or in the tire tracks that are generally no where near the lane markers?

I'm a lane marker guy, but maybe that's just my rebel ways.

The proper lane for me. Makes me cranky when people cant figure it out and wander all over.

It's a tough call, you have to choose the safest option given the traffic flow and conditions. But yeah often the proper lane is obscured and IMO you have the right to drive accordingly and help clear the path for other drivers behind you..

Or the people that paint handicap signs on the pavement...

Come on peeps.. we live in an environment that is covered by snow 7 months out of the year...

How about people in parking lots when the lines are covered all over the place.

I've been here for 6 years, and it can be pretty stupid..... I'm out in the SE and now that Stony Trail is open, it's not that bad at all.
I drive to work in a 1/2 ton.

When I drive my wife's little car, I follow the easiest lane/track. You know, the one that doesn't throw the car all over the place. In my truck, I follow the lanes as best I can.

BTW, when on the trail, I look for the powder and don't follow the tracks!

I'm with Fernie. If in my truck, the proper lane. In the car the essayist path.

thought you guys might enjoy that. For me it depends on the road conditions, my tires suck and my 4x4 isn't working, so I drive wherever I feel safest in the lane, wherever I get the most traction which is usually in the ruts, but that's just because if I drive where the lane is I'll spin out. and Yes, I do less than the speed limit in shatty conditions.

(can't afford tires, and i'm working on getting my 4x4 working again)

I drive wherever my little car will let me. With the lack of winter road maintenance around here the last few years my options are limited. The truck's just for sleddin', and I only go about 5 km's to unload, so not really an issue. ;)
