500 sleds? That's stretching it by about 475(record sled count last year was around 200) but yes there have been sleds up there. Is it right? No, is the closure right? No but it is what it is.
There has been no reply from the government on why the closure is until Dec. 1 many times when the club has asked. I question why the hut society is renting the cabins out when the closure is on also as they are the reason with the glacier is closed. Seems they want others to follow the rules but they don't.

Yes the weekend we were up there the whole meadow below the avy chutes was full of sledders partying. May have not been 500 but I would guess 100 or so without counting. Point is who cares there was crowd of people that did not comple. Furthermore there is not one sign intact that states the dates you can be up there. Each sign has been destroyed....

And seriously why wouldn't the hut society be renting the hut. You can drive or sled to the end of the road and then ski tour from the bridge to either destination quickly and easily. As per the closure guidelines.....Furthermore- more use from sledders/skiers whoever= more costs and more upkeep to keep it running. They need money-not everyone pays and not everyone cares or respects these places....

Abuse is a common issue inn the backcountry be it signs, cabins etc. There was a new sign installed at the wood shed and another inside the cabin last year.
If the hut society is having trouble with costs then raise the price. Don't sell nights when the basin is closed, I don't think anyone is going to stop at the foot bridge and carry their gear 8km when they can ride their machines.
If they want to book nights fine, help with getting the closure dates changed instead of hindering the process.

Was a deep one today, snowed on And off all day. Trail was groomed, parked at the new Forster North rd intersection at about 34ish km there is another turn around at the bridge a little farther. Road is gravelled but slick, big trailers not advised.
Creeks are open, lots of holes under rocks good times all day!

Groomed from the 34 to the wood shed, Pretty short ride. Maybe 25 trucks parked, only 1 sled went up to Thunderwater. It took him a half dozen pokes on a t3 174, my 154 was not even close. Will be really good if you can get up there.

Forecast is dry, forester pounded out yet? Where else is a good place to ride in the valley?

You could try going up brewer creek south of Invermere on the west side road but Chances are the creeks are still a little spotty. Maybe rocky point up north near silent pass. Otherwise golden or Revy has had the best snow. Forster was good when we were there but it's still a little light on base in the bottom.

The big issue is no snow at low elevations, riding areas other than Forster are going to require gravel riding....
