Dear Mr. Harper,

Please find below my suggestion for fixing Canada's economy. Instead
Of giving billions of dollars to banks and car companies, that will squander
The money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan:

There are about 20 million people over 50 in the work force. Pay them
$1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following
Stipulations:

1) They MUST retire. Twenty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

2) They MUST buy a new Canadian CAR. Twenty million cars ordered -
Auto Industry fixed.

3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing
Crisis fixed.

4) They must send their kids to school / college /university - Crime
Rate fixed

5) Buy $50 of alcohol / tobacco / petrol a week... there's your money
Back in duty / tax etc

It can't get any easier than that!

P.S. If more money is needed, have all members of parliament pay back
Their falsely claimed expenses and second home allowances.

Fantastic idea, I'll take it, well in 5 years anyway. Think about it though if the majority of these people who get the money have spouses than they too could quit and there would be more job openings.

Not to be a party pooper but....one "little flaw" in all this brilliance.

Canada's population is only 33 million so 2 of every 3 people in Canada is employed & 50+?...not likely.

If that isn't enough the cost of this genius: 20,000,000 x 1,000,000 or 20,000,000,000,000.....so $20 Trillion, more than the total GNP of the US by 150%.

Even if its a typo and should read 2 million people: $2 Trillion - more than the total GNP of Canada by 150%
