Hi,

Can someone provide me with directions to silvermines? We go to Radium often and have heard of silvermines, but do not know how to get there. Thanks

Its a 01 dodge 3500 5 speed diesel. I am thinking of turning it into a 01 3500 5 speed diesel PAPER WIEGHT!!!!

Same tranny I had in my chevy. Locked up without notice at 130km/h while pulling the travel trailer... what a ride that was!

The cummins power takes out a gear (something to due with 5th gear?) in the NV4500, which the aftermarket guys have a fix for.

At km 17, on the road to Silentpass, the road turns to the left. Follow that road to km25. Thats where we unloaded. The ride in from there is about 28-30 km.

We rode silent pass on the 27th dec and we staged at the 17 km mark, the rode you are talking about was snowcovered and we thought that it was the way to the silvermines, but have never been there before. Are you saying that that road is usally plowed and you drive your truck 25km down the road and them stage and ride your sled another 25km to get there. I have heard from other people that access to it can be difficult and that you need to wait for spring conditions to get in or is it as easy to get into as silent pass. Any comments would be appreciated.

usually you need to stage at the 17km. Now That is a long trail in with no grooming. It's worth it though

I'm suprised they got the truck up that far at this time of year.

Timing is big in that area, go in to early and risk getting trapped in Avy alley. Might be ok for a while if the slides have all come down.

lotsa snow in the forecast:d

If there is more snow in the forecast, then the avys will keep coming as well. It is a sketchy area to get into, nice once you are back there, but it is a 40 km to the tailings ponds and they don't groom. Packing gas is tough when you have to ride 2-3 ft chop for 40 kms. Some guys seem to love it but I've never been that enamored with it. Its a nice area but if you know where to ride in Silent and Gorman, there is similar terrain IMO. If the trail in was shorter it would be a great area but the access is what limits people there.

If you break something major it is a long tow out and its not an area for newbies, we ran into some in spring of 2007 and they had got themselves into a heap of trouble up the valley from the tailing ponds near the first little climb.

Everybody is correct. The Silvermines - Vermont is not an area for newbies and for that fact less experienced Mountain Riders. Getting to the first hill is a challenge for some.

It is an awesome area and I will have to state was my favorite until it became popular. Bowl after bowl after bowl and bowls that most people have never and will never go too. Locals know the way and have been followed - Once Ha! Ha!

Great area that you have to experience and give respect to the heli-skiing area with signs posted. The trail ride in is a biotch most of the times unless you know the short cut with a nasty creek crossings. You can not ride all this area in a week. I have never been to this area and not found fresh tracks- Never!

Viagra for sledders for sure!!!!
