I don't know, there are some pretty glaring stupidity statements in that article....having a GPS and being able to give coordinates but you weren't smart enough to GPS the truck or the cabin location? LMAO really? This truly goes to show that there are far too many inexperienced people with enough horsepower to get too far in the backcountry. If you can't read a map and use a compass on your own, don't leave the parking lot.

There's too much of a safety net these days. If these people didn't have GPS, Spots, helicopters and SAR, they wouldn't be in the backcountry. The backcountry is not a place to rely on others. Its always been part of the code. You are on your own. Utilizing valuable SAR resources that could be potentially be required somewhere else for someone in real distress. If they are not injured, SAR should be handing out a bill IMO.

Backcountry Code:
Rule #1: Don't rely on anyone else.
Rule #2: Never get into a situation that you can't get yourself out of - See Rule #1.

Once again... people just don't get it, absolutely ridiculous that we put rescuers lives in jeopardy to save the asses of idiots.
