How does the president put a $700 value to help these people out?
That wouldn't buy my groceries for 2 weeks
So sad. The government has made many people reliant. Another, pulling back the rug and leaving actual citizens high and dry.
If people have insurance, not sure why the govt needs to bail people out. I am cool with short term help, but the insurance companies need to reimburse that back to the govt. If you don't have insurance, tough luck. Otherwise, that is just another socialism handout.
I would guess 40% of my bc buddies Don’t have insurance on their homes. Most can’t afford it. Many of my friends insure their Harleys only when they want to go for a ride.

I understand the mess that insurance companies are in with all the wildfires. Insurance is a crap shoot. When I moved to the Shuswap, I continued using the same insurance company that I had in the east Kootenays.
Rate was favourable (started at $1100, next year $1400 and then $1600 and the final straw was this year with a jump to $2200) and we have no claims history in the last 20 years. Compared to a neighbour across the street with similar residence and similar insurables. They are insured with Intact at $1200. We were being ripped off.
Searched around and found equivalent rate for $930 at a local broker. At that cost, how can one not afford insurance.
We have excellent claims history on house and vehicles and are senior citizens. Rates are quite reasonable for our needs.

My insurance is $3400 a year. 8 acres, mobile home, barn, garage and 4km from town. No claims ever.
Insurance has an issue with my wood stove adds to the premium, they also have issues with us having chickens can pigs. They wouldn't insure us unless we signed and agreement to not butcher any animals on site.
Why the phuk would this be an issue, who is it going to hurt?

Where would you butcher chickens? Anyone I know does it in their farm, plucks and guts them right there. Hogs usually sent away for butchering. Wow what’s their issue?

I don't know, when I asked the broker we deal with said she got this information from the insurance company. Probably a vegan animal lover in Toronto working for the insurance company....

I was on google maps and they have updated the maps of Lahaina showing just about every house burned to the ground. When I went into street view and looked at what the houses looked like before the fire, I notice a few houses were made of brick and had metal roofs. I would think a home built in this way would have some of its structure still standing. One place I looked at was at 395 Pauwala Place, also there are other houses around this one that was brick too. A person would think that these types of houses would slow the fire down, maybe some would be saved. Is google maps up to something? Is there something they don't want us to see? Also there is no fire outside of town...there is nothing but dry grass East of town and nothing is burnt. Again a person would think that if a field of grass caught fire it would be black. Look for west maui toy store, all the building are burnt and its in a small area by its self, no grass burnt around it

That’s the safest thing I’ve seen on google! This story is getting crazier more and more I pay attention.

Whoa guys. You don't want to upset the snow and mud oligarchs. This sounds like conspiracy talk questioning the gov narrative.

It could be said they are covering up a crime I suppose but the more plausible reason may be there is still remains that need to be dealt with and after they are done that it becomes a massive construction cleanup area where they want people to stay out for their own safety?
