Another example of no the conditions and know how to use your equipment (get educated) before you venture into the back country. the statement "one rider was buried while the other managed to get down to Gray Creek to call for help" tells me either they were not wearing proper equipment, or he didn't know how to use it effectively. Be smart out there. The cooke city guy wasnt even wearing a beacon for F*CK sakes.

No yesterday, would like more info though. Story said his buddy went for help and 3-4 hours later they dug him up alive but he died on way to hospital.?? Must be more, like why his buddy didn't dig him out first?

Not to take away from the tragedy or loss his family is feeling but the more the rest of us know, the more we can hope to learn. Be safe, make smart choices, lots and lots of places to ride.

From Castanet;

One man is dead following an avalanche in British Columbia near Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park between Nelson and Cranbrook.

Nelson Search and Rescue Manager Lou Coletti says two snowmobilers were swept away by the avalanche on Tuesday.

He says one rider was buried while the other managed to get down to Gray Creek to call for help at about 2:30 p.m.

Kimberley Search and Rescue says they dug the snowmobiler out of the snow after three to four hours but he died on the way to hospital.

The names and ages of the two men have not yet been released.

The avalanche fatality is the fourth in less than a week in western Canada.

Last Sunday, Adrian John Cleary, 34, of Come By Chance, N.L., died after being buried under deep snow about 90 kilometres east of Vernon, B.C.
